Denoir - a question

Recommended Posts

hey man.. why are you putting time into getting a masters degree in EE? Having graduated from the CS/EE school at my university, I know several engineers and the accepted reality is that putting your time into a masters simply robs you of job experience and puts you well behind the ball once you get into the job market. Is it different in Europe. or do you simply want to teach at your U?

also, where do you get all the time to moderate and hang out at the boards?  I certainly didn't have that amount of time while at the University!

Hmm, I'm guessing that since a Masters degree is more prestigious than a Bachelors degree, he can get better jobs with it.

It's only common sense.

Job experience isn't the only thing considered when you apply for employment.

No, it seems to me that that's not really the case from my experience in the job market and my discussions with fellow graduates.

Also, I think certification as an engineer is far more important than post-bachelor degrees.

Perhaps it has to do with wanting to do research in the field by grants?

It's different. If you want to work in research and development then you have to have a masters. The pay is also about 20-30% higher. Bachelor degrees only give you jobs in maintenance, not R&D.

I've had a shitload of time the last year since I'm done with all my courses. I only have some old exams left (seven or eight). We have examination periods a couple of times a year and between that period I had a hole lot of nothing to do.

I'm currently in the middle of an exam period - I have an exam in about 4 h 30 minutes. I really should be sleeping.

k.. thanks. good luck in your exams.

How is the certification process over there? Do you need to get certified if you are doing research at the U? (or are you doing R&D somewhere else?)

I need to make my thesis at the university. Well, actually I can do it in a company but I have to have a supervisor from the university that approves it and regularly checks the progress. After that it's the private sector for me. I don't think I'm interested in a doc right now. (Although Dr. Denoir would sound nice tounge.gif )

Anyway, these types of conversations should be done by PM, so I'll close this one now smile.gif
