Sound problems with version 1.85 and 1.90...

Recommended Posts

Ok... I've been playing Flashpoint for about a half a year with 1.75 Resistance and decided to upgrade the version. I downloaded 1.90 a few months ago and experienced sound problems. When firing full-auto, there is no sound or just clicking likd when the mag is empty. It got to be really annoying so I decided to uninstall Flashpoint and reinstall it back to 1.75. Now today I finally got the time to download 1.85 and experienced the same prob. I like 1.85 because of the fixes and addons that I can now use. I need to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and if there is any way to fix it. I have dial-up and do not feel like deleting it again after 3 hours worth downloading. Do I need to buy a new sound card?

Specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+

512MB PC133 SDRAM

40GB Hard drive

64MB Sis Display Adaptor

AC97' 3d Audio Enhanced Sound

Windows 98 OS

Yeah, I've noticed that too and I don't have special sound card. I think 1.90 or 1.91 made it a little better though. You will hear more of the sound when you lower video settings.

Is it possible to downgrade back to 1.75 if i cannot resolve this problem?

Have you tried these sound card settings in Windows?

1. Maximize sound card hardware acceleration and EAX support?

or

2. Disable hardware acceleration and EAX.

cms81586, do you know who made the AC97 sound chip used on your motherboard? There may be new drivers out for it.

Windows Update may pick them up, but if you can determine the manufacturer for a manual search, that would probably be even better.

I have no idea what manufacturer it is b/c this computer is a no name brand but when I ran windows update search all I got was a bunch of security warning updates and a microsoft explorer 6.0 update. Does this mean anything? Would a new sound card help?

I would definitely find out what sound hardware you have, getting up-to-date drivers for it will be your best bet of resolving the sound issues. You can use the Device Manager to find out what is in your system, or use SiSoft Sandra to get even more detailed information.

As far as the things listed in Windows Update are concerned, it is generally a good idea to keep your system current, especially when it comes to security updates and hotfixes.

There are two likely manufacturers of your sound hardware, either VIA (because they own most of the AMD chipset market), and SiS, because you report a 64MB SiS display adapter.

VIA just released new AC97 audio drivers for all Windows versions today -- you can get those here.

The SiS drivers can be found on their download center site located here. Their drivers were updated in November 2002 or in January 2003, depending on the chipset we are talking about, so these drivers are probably more recent than what you have.

YOur soundcard is your problem. I have an ASUS motherboard with this sound card embedded and get the exact same results when trying to use EAX.

Turn of all hardware acceleration for your sound card in the sound options in OFP, and while you wont have all of the neat effect, you will at least hear all of the sounds.

New drivers wont help...I've found them and tried them. Unfortunately the AC97 chipset just plain sucks! confused.gif

I recently stole the soundblaster live card from my Wifes computer, and replaced hers with an old ISA sound card that was lying around...that solved my problem. tounge.gif

This is the company you are looking for...

But like I said...a new driver wont help you. sad.gif

Yes, CMedia is another company making AC97-compatible sound chips. That's why it is important to find out who made the chip on that motherboard.

By the way I can't disable or enable the sound hardware acceleration. It says "disabled" and I cannot change it from within the game. Anyone know whats up? Also, if I cannot update the AC97 chipset, where do I get a Soundblaster chipset? I'm thinkin of getting a Radeon 9500 Pro. Anyone have problems with this and Flashpoint?
