Get an HK or a Walther

A friend of mine was one of the RCMP lead fire arms instructors and he had a fully tricked out Glock, but even so, he preferred HK.

I have a Glock 25 and I am very pleased with it. It is very well balanced, has excellent grip (even with sweaty hands), the recoil is within limits and the magazine capacity of 17 shots is absoltuely sufficient. I really enjoy this gun from the first day I got it. I have a P8 for the job also, but I prefer the .380 Auto to it whenever possible. It´s somehow better. Dont know why. Maybe it´s something personal.

Ahhhhh! That explains it.

Funny thing is if I wanted to off someone, I'd use a .22 to the back of the head. Caliber has little to do with lethality

I think it is a matter of personal taste: I've shot both Glock and H&K USP (both 9x19mm versions) and I very much prefer the USP. It... it's as though it was made for my hand. And I dislike the trigger safety of the Glocks. It always messes up the trigger pull (for me).

As far as Sig-Sauers go, I've only shot the P226 (once), which was nice enough. Unfortunately it was a rental and the shooting range people didn't clean it, so the slide kept locking in the rear position, even though there were rounds left in the magazine. It kinda too the fun out of it.

choosing gun is personal preference. I personally don't have much for Glocks. Small trigger guard, awkward grip angle being the top two reasons. but your preference might be different.

I can't believe Brazil, the home of Taurus pistols, do not allow anything over .380.

anyway, my suggestion is that you goto shooting range and test out all possible options. take your time in choosing the gun.

speaking of P22, it's a fun gun to plink with. however, at least for me, it's a bit small and don't like that.

Beretta, Sig/SAUER, and Walther all have some .380 caliber pistols.(Walther PPK a.k.a. James Bond pistol)

edit2: wonder if they allow .357mag guns in Brazil.

Yes... Taurus ( http://www.taurus.com.br/ )...

they have a quite kick ass revolvers hahaha.. but I don't think that they Pistols are good as Glock.. or Walther.... I dont know... but... I will see hehe..

Yes. The PPK was my second private gun I've ever owned. It's very nice to shoot - high fun factor. You can however forget about any serious precision shooting since it's not very accurate. Also one has to be very careful with the slide - I've had my hand clipped by it a number of times. Hurts like hell.

About the Walther P22 - it's a great as a first gun. Simple, light and fairly accurate. A friend of mine owns one so I've had the chance to try it out a couple of times. If you are going for a .22 then you should really take a closer look at the P22.

unless you are James Bond   on serious notes, such guns are also known as belly guns. you fire it while holding in front of your belly/stomach. meaning the caliber.gun is more for close distance self defense.

I need to add to this. SIg 232(mentione above in my post) has same tendency. so be careful. it seems like similar designs have some problem with that regards.

blah. Walther fanatic.   but not much against P22 except personal preference of mine. to add a bit more, P22 is the hottest sought after .22 pistol in US thesedays.

for .22, I'd also suggest that you look at Ruger and Browning. both fair well too.

Well isnt my fist gun... on Army I had an Beretta 92 .. 9mm... but will be my first private gun.. hehe.. as a civilian..

On a side note, I know one SWAT officer and firearms instructor who owes his life to the fact that a .22LR -- even when fired from a rifle -- doesn't always penetrate the skull.

He was shot in the upper forehead, and the bullet travelled under his scalp to the back of the head, where it exited. Left an interesting scar (and one heck of a temporary headache), but that was it.
