Linux dedicated server 1.91 final

Recommended Posts

Ok I just upgraded both servers to 1.91.

First impression: Frequent server crashes! At least 5 times in the last 60 minutes. The logfile contains no useful information.

Any idea on a possible reason?  confused.gif

Same here!

1.90 is crashing

1.91 also!

A shame that the linux dedi is not working stable on so many systems...

Just installed and started, connect, segmentation fault.

I have all files from 1.91beta installation on the server.

edit:

damn.. now also 1.90f has segmentation faults.

UPDATES:

23.03.2003 - ~20wow.gif0

--------------------

ah... don't know what was the error. now working at test box at home and on server.

no files changed. have done a md5sum over all files on server and on box at home

23.03.2003 - 22:15

-------------------

when I use no squad.xml in my user profile, I can connect to the server and all works fine. with 1.91 and 1.90f. when I use a xml in my profile, the server crashes with segmentation fault. both versions. at home and on the real server which worked before very well. and all was working till last wednesday without problem. nothing changed on the real server. only renamed the files to the name convention. also no changes was made on the installation at home.

this is a bug I cannot follow, cause from one day to the other day with the same installation nothing is working. server crashes without any hint. only segmentation fault.

I will post more, when I fnd out more...

Thx, for the warning, i backupped my installation before updating the server...

So far all went well. I uploaded the dtaext.pbo, extracted the new server file manually and restarted the server. All went fine so far. More in a few more hours wink.gif

content of strace deleted. not needed anymore....

I have tried to host my squad.xml on another server and now it works without problems.

Seems that my provider has changed something in the last days and now this brings the server down.

Our server is running for 4h with 1.91 now, not one crash, i even got the impression it is running better than with 1.90f. I'm not sure, #monitor now shows used memory and i think it did not do before (but i haven't used the #monitor command for some time). I did not check #init and the other stuff yet.

It seems to me that the crashes are still related to XML parsing. We were up for several hours now but one player made it go tits up. And he tried again. And again....sigh...

K. I'll keep my iptables thingy when I'll upgrade the server wink.gif .

Seems XML won't be activated on Linux servers.

Shrike, did you set up iptables? (question related to your questions in the other 1.90 Linux thread)

No, not yet. I wanted to wait for 1.91 final to see if there still was a need for it. There obviously is...

Just wild guessing here, but yesterday a player connected and got a warning message about not being able to load his custom face or something and the pathname contained a space (his nickname was something like "xxx xxxxx"). Maybe the xml problems are of a similar nature, eg the server crashes when the xml filename or path contains spaces?!? I will test this when i have the time...

to kurt: was an other version running or is it the first test of server installation?

to the others about iptables: somebody knows how to use the proxy command in the config file?

proxy="127.0.0.1:8080" or is this wrong?

haven't found anything in the forum over search and also nothing in the readmes of the server. I try to set up a small filtering proxy which filters the squad files out, so that they are not loaded, but the http client port is open to get files with wget. If I close them, I cannot get files over wget in future, and this is what I don't want.

hmm.. still searching for the problem with the xml. don't know why the xml on one web server crashes the ofp server, while the same don't crash the server when hosted on another web server.

Also I have not found out which port is used to request the xml file. Have run iptraf and tcpdump on my linux server, but have not seen a request to the IP of the webserver or the name squad.xml.

With strace on the server I had a "GET squad.xml HTTP/1.0" in the output and a name of a member which is inside the squad.xml.

Also I have tried to redirect the outgoing port 80 to a port where a proxy was running and blocking all content. But the proxy log has not shown any activity from the ofp server side. With wget all content was blocked by the proxy.

This is getting to be a very strange problem.

Is it possible to get some answers about how the squad.xml is working from the programmers? What port is used, how can the network traffic beeing debugged?

I don't know what to do more with the squad.xml or with the debugging. I'm not a programmer and so don't know what all is possible to debug running programs.

If someone want to look at the squad.xml, so he can do:

http://www.ciahome.net/general/squad.xml (crashing server)

http://jugend96.virtualave.net/squad.xml (working)

Watch the squad.xml in the Internet Explorer and you will see that they are the same.

Hope someone can help.

This update should fix XML related crashing on the Linux server.

Thanks to Lobanak for his cooperation.

No problem for help.

Server works fine. No crashes at the 5 hours of game play at wednesday with it. Our squad.xml which causes server crashes with segmentation fault worked fine with this version. No crashes anymore.

Mirror for all people who have problems with the download (direct download link):

Have you putted up the squad.dtd and squad.xsl also? I think they are missing and this is why the server crashes.

Files are complete.

Still crashing...

Put same files on another server - is working...

But there must be a problem with the web server, cause you cannot see it over Internet Explorer.

When this works, it also works for the ofp server.

Check the rights of the file for 644
