Interesting criteria. But if you were to go by that, what about Erich Hartmann's 352 aerial victories, mostly in Bf 109's on the Eastern Front?

Well, I was sure someone else would mention it, surprized no one has till now. Of course the 109 series were amazing, especially considering 1t was a 1933(?) design. However I do have a  personal bias towards the Russian planes smile.gif. (and I just suck when I fly 109's in IL-2)

But to be fair, my 3rd nomination :

bf-109 K-4

and as a comparison,

bf-109 B

(not to scale of course smile.gif )

For me, its a pick out of the Spitfire (of any Mark-even if Hurricanes shot down the majority of German planes durring the Battle of Britain), the FW-190, The He-219 'Uhu' or the Yak-9U (or whatever model the one that doesn't have a huge cannon is).

Edit-Now the facts are right.

Did you know that they never actualy used all the stuff they collected? It was only a moral boaster, they couldnt actually use the pots and pans so they had to quitely dump it all tounge.gif

Maybe they could have, but they didn't.

And I might add, after flying the Yak-3 I can see why Tovarish is such a big fan of it, nice and manovarable smile.gif

no the spitfire shot down 60% of the bf109 kills, the hurricane shot down more planes overall, it was used more against bombers as it was more durable, there were more hurricanes, but since the spit was a real cutie and performed better than the cane the public luved it. For me its the 190 and the spit, the spit one of the best dogfighters, it had turn climb high alt low alt performance strong arment good looks and attracts the ladies. The 190 IMO the best multirole fighter made at the time, it could be anything from fighter to night fighter to ground pounder bomber destroyer, it could carry the biggest bomb by a fighter 1800kg, it could carry torpeos, it had more puch by a huge margine than anyother single engine/seat fighter. It was strong, fast, rolls better than anything else, and great firepower.

I just read up on the He-219 'Uhu', since I had no idea what this airplane looked like. I'm thoroughly impressed -- it even had ejection seats for the crew, and was designed with the idea of an eventual upgrade to jet engines.

Well, I meant planes so I will go and edit it now so everybody can be happy smile.gif

As for the He-219, yes, it was a great plane. It had speed, firepower, radar and crew safety smile.gif The best German Night Fighter of the war, fortunetely for the allies not many were made.
