ILDU Dimi 0 Posted February 5, 2023 I spent the last two weeks making a Mission, ive probably spent well over a hundred Hours making it. Today i was about 99% done. When i wanted to test my recent changes (I Built a Trench and wanted to see if the player can go through it without issues) i pressed "Play in Multiplayer" like you would normally, however instead of the over 100 playable Units that i placed down, only the one that i specifically placed down to test showed up in the Role assignment. I went back into the editor and discovered that Literally EVERYTHING except that last playable Unit that i placed down was gone. If you press "Play" the Mission will autosave and therfore overwrite itself. Is there a way to recover the older Version of the "mission.sqm" ? Im willing to try just about anything at this point as recreating a mission with over 100 Playable Units that all have indevidual Loadouts, all the custom Vehicles and especially all the scripted Triggers will be a Pain to recreate and honestly my motivation to do so is also gone after this ordeal. (sorry for any spelling mistakes, english is not my native languidge.) Please Help 😕
Gunter Severloh 4052 Posted February 6, 2023 Welcome to BI forums! Sorry to hear about your issue, theres really no way to recover a mission unless there is a mission.sqm.backup file, or the mission was on a server you joined, which then you could grab it from your C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Arma 3\MPMissionsCache and the mission would be a pbo. I would recommend you take a look in the Arma 3 folder here in the saved missions folder C:\Users\your username\Documents\Arma 3\Saved and here C:\Users\your username\Documents\Arma 3\UserSaved a better and more thorough idea would be to use this program Agent Ransack https://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/ its a deep search tool, i use it all the time for stuff i need depending for missions, scripts, ect,. but with that program, you can search every nook and cranny of your computer to see if there is a copy of your mission like a back up, if not, then another way would be to use another app that will recover what was deleted i think the program is called recovero? i forget but i think it only works on HDD drives not on SSD's. Outside of that, i'd recommend do a google search to locate another way to recover. Unless you physically deleted the mission folder/pbo yourself then it may be recoverable and you may have to start over. Always backup your work, put it on steam workshop, google drive, make a copy of it, even an older version of a mission is better then nothing then at least you would have something to go off of. Hope that helps, cheers!

Hope that helps, cheers! Hi, thanks for the reply. I used a programm called "Data Recovery Wizard" and managed to find an older Version of the "mission.sqm" from three days earlyer. A lot happen during these three Days but im happy i managed to recover something. The only problem i have is that the "mission.sqm" was Binarized and now my Game crashes every time i copy or merge the Fiile to a "blank" Mission. Ive also tried to copy the text to a existing mission.sqm but no luck eather. When i try to un-binarize it with Arma tools i get the following error message: line 0: '.': '(' encountered instead of '=' Any tips on getting this File to work again ? Gunter Severloh 4052 Posted February 6, 2023 Hi, happy you have recovered an older mission.sqm. In the future dont binerize your missions its not necessary, but to unbinerize the mission.sqm see my post in the thread here 13 minutes ago, ILDU Dimi said: When i try to un-binarize it with Arma tools So you've tried the MissionDerap.bat method using the CfgConvert? and you encountered the error, or what did you try? Also please dont quote my whole post, quote specific questions, or points, or use @ to call me and i'll get a notice when i get on the forums.

Yeah i followed your Instructions on the Post you mentioned and got the error: " line 0: '.': '(' encountered instead of '=' ". I aslo tried it with the Arma Tools directly and had the same issue. It did however create a backup, but both the Original and Backup were still Binarized. Sorry it took me so long to reply but me Steam account got hacked in the meanwhile 😕
Gunter Severloh 4052 Posted February 9, 2023 Heres what you can try, if you only have the mission.sqm then do this: 1. Create a folder and name it what your mission name was. Just a note when naming your mission for example if your mission was called Assault Base and it was on Altis, then name it like this Assault_Base.altis if you dont put the _ in there then the game will add a %20 in between. So when you name your mission be sure to add the exact map extension to the end of the title of the mission, like above if your mission was on altis then the mission name would be (example) Assault.altis on stratis .stratis, on Tanoa .tanoa ect, I have a tutorial actually on how to name your missions and mission files seen here 2. Move the mission.sqm into the folder you created. 3. The move the mission folder to the editor ----> C:\Users\your username\Documents\Arma 3\missions 4. Be sure to load any mods that the mission was using, and then see if you can load the mission in the editor, so choose the map that the mission is on, go to open scenario (top left) in eden, if you have to import the mission then do that. 5. If the mission does open, then set two settings in the editor on the taskbar (top): A. Attributes -----> General ----> Binarize the scenario file [ ] uncheck the box B. Settings ----> Preferences ----> Binarize new scenario files [ ] uncheck the box 6. After you do that, the save the mission, and then go to Scenario ----> open scenario folder 7. Open the mission.sqm with notepad++ or notepad if you dont have the ++ version and if the words, and code are readable not some hieroglyphics font 😄 then your mission is not binarized, at this point you should be able to edit the mission. ========== See if that works.
