Darkbelg 6 Posted March 5, 2022 So arma 3 2,08 has this new command called disableBrakes. I wanted to see if it would make any difference in a incoming missile situation. Here is the data: forward engine brakes 100m 100m 100m 100m 100m 100m avg min max median ranking avg ranking min ranking max ranking median Ranking less is more x 9,927 9,864 9,623 9,883 9,870 9,871 9,840 9,623 9,927 9,871 2 3 1 2 8 x x 9,933 10,009 10,166 9,920 9,822 9,833 9,947 9,822 10,166 9,927 4 4 4 4 16 x x 9,845 9,763 9,611 9,939 9,901 9,826 9,814 9,611 9,939 9,836 1 2 2 1 6 x x x 9,927 9,511 9,861 9,908 9,970 9,989 9,861 9,511 9,989 9,918 3 1 3 3 10 15,671 15,718 15,758 15,687 15,725 15,703 15,710 15,671 15,758 15,711 4 4 3 4 15 x 15,632 15,614 15,73 15,637 15,626 15,604 15,641 15,604 15,730 15,629 1 2 2 1 6 x 15,685 15,616 15,627 15,669 15,629 15,683 15,652 15,616 15,685 15,649 3 3 1 3 10 x x 15,627 15,648 15,635 15,573 15,764 15,646 15,649 15,573 15,764 15,641 2 1 4 2 9 I drove a 100m pressing down tubro. And then i did the same but reverse. I used two triggers one that sets a timer when i drive over it and another that stops the timer. My testing seems to have results i did not expect. My testing might be seriously flawed. No brakes seems to be the worst. And having the engine off and the brakes on seems to be the best case. This does not make any sense to me.
Harzach 2517 Posted March 5, 2022 https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/disableBrakes Quote Description: Disables autobrake, which is engaged when vehicle is stationary and stops wheels from rotating freely when vehicle is pushed. I'm not sure I understand what it is you are testing.
Darkbelg 6 Posted March 7, 2022 Ok, i miss interpreted what was possible. What i was thinking was if there is no brake engaged. I will be able to move faster from my start point. But it seems like a physX object with enough force has to interact with the vehicle before it releases the actual brake. Meaning if you execute the command on a slope your vehicle won't start rolling down hill. What this does show is that disabling breaks might actually have a a delay when reinitializing movement. joostsidy 685 Posted March 9, 2022 My statistics knowledge is a bit rusty, but I have some worries about the validity of your results. The differences you base your ranking on are quite small, which makes me wonder if they are (statistically) significant. Av diff between forw no engine, with and without brakes is 0.026 sec in favor of breaks. For engine on the effect is reversed, which could be an indication that there is no real effect of breaks. You have only six samples per condition which seems a bit low to detect such small possible effect. I realize all the testing takes some work in the game, I respect that! So basically I'm not yet convinced your ranking means anything. I suspect that if I try it, I might get another ranking. Disclaimer: I looked really hard at your numbers, because I had other work to do, but did not feel like doing it. 😅
