llauma 0 Posted February 5, 2003 I was thinking of making a crossbow for OFP but I'm not that skilled so it would propably end up as crap... But there are some skilled addon makers here who could maybe do them? Crossbows were used by special forces during WW2 and even in Vietnam. They are perfect stealth weapons cause they make hardly no sound and do not create a muzzle flash or smoke. But the main reason why I would want them is cause damn it would be cool to nail a few enemies
RaptorAce 0 Posted February 6, 2003 i dont think its possible to make something fly off a weapon like that, or make it stay into the body after it gets shot
philcommando 0 Posted February 6, 2003 Perhaps an 02 modelled crossbow using LAWW weapon configuration and configured with proxy arrows?
RaptorAce 0 Posted February 6, 2003 well i still dont think it'd be possible, because it would involve a piece of the weapon flying off... and it would look goofy having an arrow on the crossbow when there's no ammo
PiNs_Da_Smoka 0 Posted February 6, 2003 You can make your own ammo type, i believe (haven't tried it) and you can use a seperate model for when the arrow isn't on the weapon, or has been fired. So, theoretically, it is very possible. Just needs someone to actually do it.
Mr. Snrub 0 Posted February 6, 2003 Would it be similar to the various RPG-7's that have been released, with the rocket being fired off the end?
waffendennis 0 Posted February 6, 2003 Well its posible only take the Cpp from a M16+Grenade launcher and edit the Grenade to a arrow or somthing but dont make it explode only fire and kill some 1 so not exploding or else you have got a nice new kind of silence extreme dead weapon. you will need defintley do some scripting job to put the arrow in the boady and stick it there or else it will go right treu it and it will fly like a real bullet. and a nice idea is if you are being hit by a Arrow in your chest or somthing and its not to deep but you are bleeding like hell your Health must drop down in a verry short amout of time or if you are being hit in your leg your soldier cant run or cant walk normal and if he dont gets healed by the Medic he will die. Guest BratZ Posted February 6, 2003 Absolutely, proxy your arrow on the weapon and define it,when there are no more arrows the crossbow would be empty. I know the crossbow can be done but like was mentioned,I don't think it would stick in the body you shoot at.

And remember that IM65 rocket launcher, that was held like a rifle? That's how you make a crossbow work.

USMC Sniper 0 Posted February 7, 2003 Hey does anyone want to make the crossbow with me? I can make the model and maybe cpp stuff. (Not textureing tho, anything but texturing!!!

llauma 0 Posted February 7, 2003 Hmm.. I am doing one also Let's see if I can make it work. If you have done a config file I would gladly wanna see it I am not even done with the basic model so it will take some time until it's ready. But it looks good so far
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted February 7, 2003 Someone mentioned that it would look stupid if it showed an arrow on the model even when out of ammo... couldn't you configure it where the arrow is in the hidden section... and have a script to where when you're out of ammo it will "hide" that selection.. and once you get ammo it will "unhide" it?
PiNs_Da_Smoka 0 Posted February 7, 2003 There is no need for all that bullzeye. All you need is a seperate model without the arrow on it. This is what they did with the mortar on guns. When you attack the mortar, its not just some model attached to the gun, its a whole seperate model with the mortar on there, just playin a little switcheroo when you reload the mortar. This is all the needs to be done.

RaptorAce 0 Posted February 8, 2003 yeah, i forgot about the mortar, i guess it will work
llauma 0 Posted February 9, 2003 Can someone make a config.cpp for a crossbow? I don't know much about cpp's... It should mainly be like kegetys rpg-7 but the difference is that it should be held like an ordinary rifle and the rocket/bolt should act like a real bolt. I guess this wouldn't be too complicated for those who know how to make a cpp. I would also want to learn how to animate the crossbow so it looks real. Any good tutorials? Chomps 0 Posted February 9, 2003 What about the M16 with mortar? Couldn't you configure it like that?
llauma 0 Posted February 9, 2003 This is what I have done so far... I borrowed some SVD Dragunov parts. I will keep that buttstock but I'll make a new optic. The textures still remains but it's not too hard to do them, it will mainly be black composite material which is quite easy to do.
OxPecker 0 Posted February 9, 2003 My suggestion: do it like a grenade launcher. Instead of firing a grenade, it would fire a bolt. It would have a flatter trajectory of course. And the model could actually be 2 models: unloaded with string forward, and loaded with bolt and string pulled back.

It does sound like a good solution. I will do two models, loaded and empty. But don't hope for too much. It will propably end up as a crap.
