There is a vast difference between being a 'Peace Activist' and being against war for the sake of war.

If the Iraq situation is truly about an unstable dictatorship possesing WMD or the means to construct them, then the US should be focussing on Korea, not on Iraq.  Korea is not only admitting to producing WMD, but has the means and programs that Iraq doesnt.

War should be the absolute last resort of the failure of diplomacy.  And as sick as you are of 'peace activists' saying no to war at all, I am sick of irresponsible twits who are willing to go to war for questionable ideas backed by rhetoric more than proof.

More on topic, I am amazed not that some whacko attaced an air force transport with a hatchet, and more that security was so lax that she could GET at the aircraft. Whats up with that?!?!

Otherwise japan should be able to attack any western nation as retaliation to Hiroshima and Nagasaki (oh wait, that was during war, so that makes killing that many civilians OK).<span id='postcolor'>

There was a reason we used them. By using them we avoided invading mainland Japan, which would have resulted in a million dead US soldiers and millions of Japanese civilians.

Lets drop any discussion of the US use of WMD on Japan. It was discussed to death in the Iraq thread already. Please reread there for a more concise wrap up.

Thanks and have a McHappy day wink.gif

but such "activists" are also an asshole. their claim is "No war, yes peace" if they want to stick their claim they better live by it. and tresspassing and destroying other's property is not a peaceful solution nor is morally justifiable.

problem with these ppl is that they think going against status quo is ALWAYS justifiable. all they want is to bring the system down, but they have no solution.<span id='postcolor'>

Ralph, I don't think I've ever agreed with you more.

If you read the post I responded to, Scanger did.

You know, read? wink.gif

Oh yeah, you got me all figured out Scanger...

I'm a tree-huggin' hippy communist just because I disagree with the almighty fucking holier-than-thou imperialist attitude of America.  tounge.gif

I guess if I spoke out against the gassing of Jews in WW2 that would make me a "PEACE ACTIVIST gone horribly wrong" too.  confused.gif

What I am against is pointless and/or immoral wars. If you really think the war on Iraq is about defending your homeland, you are very misinformed and just plain naieve.

Howdy Raplh,

I am calm, I'm just impressed that Major Fubar referred to me as an OFFICIAL, the last I checked I wasn't but now I know in his heart he really respects me!! wink.gif

*sigh* OK, let me make it nice and simple for you and your buddy FSpilot.

He posted saying no one (admittedly I missed the word official) was saying the war on Iraq was about S11.

I replied that you said it. I didn't mean that you were official, I was telling FS pilot that that was why I replied like I did.

All cleared up now, so lets get back into the sandbox and pull each others hair like mature adults.

Yes, but this war doesn't have much to do with September 11th. However, it is brought on by Bush's doctrine, which is.

I don't think this war is in retalliation to September 11th. But the US has gotten a more aggresive stance against terrorism since 09/11 since it's become such a big issue. Iraq was probably on our to-do list for a while before 9-11, since most of our evidence came from before then. We just couldn't up and say "ok, let's attack Iraq now" out of the blue.

Scanger - you should consider removing the racist joke in your sig. I realy do find it disgustingly inappropriate!

If the camel one is racist to afghanistan, then the second one is racist to dead people, and i don't think the lapd would get away with it then would you?

I call it humour and that's what most would too.

I hope you can see it from my perspective now wink.gif

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The real reason why that statement is stupid is because 9/11 has only been used as a reason to attack one country, and is being used as a partial excuse to threaten another, bringing the total to 1.5 times 9/11 has been used in that way, if you count the second instance, which hasn't really even happened (yet). Hardly "whoever they want."<span id='postcolor'>

And the reason why your statement is stupid is because 1) we're not talking about Afghanistan, which IS about 09/11. and 2) We are not attacking Iraq directly because of what happened on 9/11.

And please, you can make jokes about Afghanistan. They're not a race, they're a country. confused.gif

I don't care about the second one - it's the first one that bothers me. I don't like it!

IMHO, if Osama had have been publicly brought to justice (either killed on camera or brought before an international court), then the attack on Iraq wouldn't be going ahead now.

Like it or not, politicians (all around the world, not just the US) are there to procure public support for their party and help their re-election chances just as much, if not moreso, as to serve their country. It's the nature of democracy.

You have a nation full of people hurting and seeking retribution for S11. The most identifiable perpetrator, Osama, disappears. The public therefore gets no sense of justice or closure.

Hey, what about Iraq? If we vent the public rage on them by a big miltary action, it will make the government and pres look like big heroes, and the average citizen will have a focus for their vengeance again.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

Oh please! As if I didn't know Afghanistan is populated by pastoralized tribes whith a social structure of clan system. I'm about to finish my degree in social anthropology you know wink.gif

However, his sig. pretty much sums up his view of afghanis wouldn't you say? Not a lot of respect there I'm afraid. Why would anyone take his arguments seriously when all he can do is to ridicule other people?

Look, this is pointless. Neither of us is going to change the others mind.

I'm guessing you two are quite young, and don't fully understand the consequences of war and loss of human life. To you, I imagine, war is still like a computer game, nice and sterile, that you can walk away from or hit the restart button if you don't like how it turns out. Maybe if you spoke with a few people who live in wartorn countries and high conflict areas you might get some perspective, or even servicemen who have served in wartime.

And with that, I get out of all political related threads...
