sseagle 0 Posted January 27, 2003 Not a red cent, mods are meant to be unsellable as most of the documentation and EULA's show. CS is a mod, and only a complete idiot would pay for it, even if it was a good game. When they released the game on cd, it had new maps, the next day Valve officially released them for free on their site, this is because when you can download a mission from the server, no one will ever pay for one. As for addons, keep em free.

Guest Posted January 28, 2003 Just to throw a spanner in the works, what if you could download the mod for free, but you could also have it burnt to CD and shipped to you for (roughly) US$5? Some mods are going to be, well, large, and people complain (and complain and complain) that they are too big. If you could buy it on CD for a minimal price (prize? ) would you do it? Some mods (or at least one I know of, I assume some others are thinking/doing the same) are making altered copies of various core BIS files to put in their mods in order to change the game to suit their needs (these wouldn't overwrite your existing files, just sit in the OFP-XXX-mod folder). As a consequence of this the download sizes may well be 200-400Mb (approx). Would 56k users (who don't know what download managers or patience are) be interested in buying it on CD? Otherwise I think mods should be free (except CS, where you should have to pay at least $1000 for being a twat)
Jahve 0 Posted January 28, 2003 I think its stupid to sell mods.. like all those bad ones out there...but for 56k users it would be ok..
benu 1 Posted January 28, 2003 There are sites on the net where you can select free stuff like patches/mods/etc and they will burn them on cd for you and ship them to you for a small fee. There are many "mods" available for money, though they are mostly called "addons" and sold by the publisher. I don't think mods generally have to be for free. BUT: in most games it's not legally possible to charge money for the mods as the tools to make them have terms in their licenses prohibiting just that. And if i would have to pay for a mod it has to be good. Very good. There are many good addons for ofp, and some of them get used in more than just one mission or even in many missions. But that's not good enough for a mod i would pay for. It has to be a sort of "standard". The sebnam pack seems to be becoming the standard vietnam addon. If that mod is complete (with tanks and choppers) it would be one mod which i would consider buying.

I'm sure people could pack their stuff into .p3ds without Oxygen.. If it was a top-notch-kick-ass mod, if it would really enrich the game, maybe add a new dimension to it, i'd pay 10 bucks for it. I don't think mods (in genereal) should be "marketed", but we all know that often serious amounts of time and hard work go into them. So why not? If it's that good, i would pay for the sleepless nights and the months of hard work..

-Ash- 0 Posted January 30, 2003 How about releasing a mod on cd to a limited few people and for a very small cost, and using the money to donate to some kind of war memorial fund, or similar charity? That's what I was thinking for when the Falklands Mod is ready due to it's inevitable size....It's gonna be fairly huge...
