philcommando 0 Posted January 20, 2003 folks, i am a nobody, just that i love to experiment and notice some folks would like to create hybrid vehicles - pickup trucks with mg, eg....so to save u the time experimenting, i just wanna share with u some experiments so that it will cut short your trial and error time. Ofp is modular, meaning that certain config details are hardwired into vehicular classes so that anymodeler from bis can just model the vehicle and dont have to spent time worrying about weapon systems. car:- nothing will make the car comes with weapons. Jeep:- wheel vehicle but can be fitted with a proxy mg gunner, but u got to proxy the gunner too. like a car, u cannot control the gun. Brdm:- a wheeled vehicle but can float and no weapons allowed unless like a jeep...lose control and proxy mg gunner whole. M113:- a track vehicle and will never move on wheels, very unstable if u tried to fake an M113 as car. Hardwired with mg whether u model an mg or not. if not no aiming only. Floats and moves on water well. M1Abrams:- track vehicle same as M113 except comes with hardwire mg and canon, whether u model the part or not. Ship:- moves on water well, hardwired with mg, moves on land slow if u model wheels on it. Workaround:- use an M113 for weapons class vehicles so that u can control the weapon systems. a. model the car or truck b. model the mg as per Brsseb's tutorial c. fake the wheel rotation by using the Kol parts as it rotates. d. place 2 hidden box/vertices, faking it as tracks so that it will not be unstable. Without it, your car gonna shake terribly. I am not advertising my work, but if u wanna understand how it can be done, depbo it and see it for yourselves. www.geocities.com/philcommando/lotus.html The S1 model is actually a brdm as i wanted a racing car that floats just like the real movie car. The M1 is actually an M113 modified. sigh.....no diving capability in ofp yet.
kegetys 2 Posted January 20, 2003 These are the actual simulation classes available, each of which define alot how the vehicle works, and each of which have their limitations: car motorcycle tank soldier helicopter airplane ship parachute "car" cant fire other than machine gun weapons for example, and a "airplane" cannot float etc. everything else is defined by other parameters, for example both "m113" and "m1abrams" are actually on the same "tank" simulation, the M113 has just "canFloat" set to one and a MG weapon, while the abrams has more weapons etc.
Guest BratZ Posted January 20, 2003 Good tips, but I think any class that can have a turret just needs the axis and gun pieces defined Bis just proxy a M2 to the back of the Jeep instead of making a whole another gun,I believe
