Photo-realism

Recommended Posts

To create a high quality addon, it should represent exactly in detail to the original product, but to do that in ofp, you will start to think ofp has a slow-mo mode, cos the more parts(faces) u have, the more the cpu have to process.

Another way is to use good pics to texture so that when far, the addon looks like it got many parts due to the effect of shadows on the pic. However its not easy to get good pics. You cant just go to Area 51 and tell the marine guard to inform the commander to park his F117 under the 10 am sun and arrange a chopper for an overhead view. He'll throw u into the brig without trial if he doesnt die of laughter first.

Another way is to add noise to the pic to simulate dust and dirt. For the more discerning, perhaps u might wanna try this way:-

1. Model your addon in 3dmax with basic colored texture.

2. Use the material effects channel;- shininess, illuminicity, etc to add some sparkle to the model.

3. Use bump or reflection channels to give it the weathered look

4. To create the environment, experiment with omni lights, particle spray or dirtreyes plugin if u have.

5. Once u are satisfied, use any of the views(not 3d view) render and save the file.

6. Open the file in paint program and match it to your first texture. Apply to your model again and preview. Once u are happy with it, save it as jpg and use it in 02 to texture your model.

I am not a pro in this, just sharing an idea. Many others out there have different methods to achieve photo-realism.

Edit:- i personally dislike elitism, arty farty, snobbery in any form. I value freedom of expression. As long as u are happy with your self created addons in any form, enjoy and if u are charitable enough, share it with us. Those that want it can download it, those that dont, doesnt matter. The only ones who should have high standards should be those bought in BIS expansion packs. And those free ones from them...hehe..i sure as hell aint gonna complain.

I only wrote this for those who are not happy with their current models and might be seeking for a better solution. Hope it helps. wink.gif
