The Russian Spetsnaz have been testing a .22LR short range silenced sniper rifle in combat in Chechnya...apparently with good success. For short range quiet killing .22LR will do the job unless the opponent is wearing kevlar helmets and body armor. In Vietnam silenced .22LR Ruger pistols were sometimes used by "Tunnel Rats" and Special Forces with a high degree of success.
