benu 1 Posted January 4, 2003 Does anyone know what could cause the following warning messages some players on my server get: Player uses modified data file - res\bin\config.bin Player uses modified data file - res\bin\resource.bin Player uses modified config file - cfg/CfgVehicles/Plane/ Player uses modified config file - cfg/CfgWorlds/DefaultWorld/Subdivision/ Player uses modified data file - kegnoecain_snow\kegnoecain_snow.wrp Player uses modified data file - noe\noe.wrp Player uses modified data file - sebnam_ia_trang\seb_iatrang.wrp Player uses modified data file - worlds\abel.wrp Player uses modified data file - worlds\cain.wrp Player uses modified data file - worlds\sttabel_desert.wrp Player uses modified data file - orangeland\orangeland.wrp Player uses modified data file - ebe1\ebeden_jungle.wrp I know that satchels dynamic range uses a modified config.bin (using that one myself), but how does one get a modified resource.bin? Or modified worldfiles? And what do the Plane and Subdivision messages mean? Subdivision seems to come from dynamic range too, although i'm not 100% sure of that. Resource.bin has changed from 1.85 to 1.90, so maybe this doesn't mean that the user has actually modified the file but is using an older version of ofp, i.e. 1.85?!? And btw: does the goty edition use the same res\bin\config.bin and resource.bin files? I am asking this cause some of my players want to see all players banned which use modified files and before i do this i want to know if there may be a good reason for having modified files. suma 8 Posted January 4, 2003 The meaning of the modified file message is file on the computer of given player differs from the file that is installed on the server. This may be caused by either server or client version is currupted or modifed, which may be intentional or not. Modified world (.wrp) file can easily mean given player is cheating. There is a lot of cheats based on world modifications. While I can understand some players could have different version of 3-rd party islands, official island (like abel.wrp) should really be the same for all players. kegetys 2 Posted January 4, 2003 Regarding the modified datafile messages, I have noticed a small "bug", the "Player uses modified data file" is displayed as many times as there are players. So for example when there are 30 players in game and one is having a modified datafile, the message gets displayed 30 times, once every time a player gets to the briefing. While it does help noticing the message, it causes an awful flood to the chat. This is on a 1.90 windows dedicated server at least. Also, I remember something that if the client does not respond to a "crc request" or something in a certain amount of time a modified datafile/config message is shown, is this correct? I remember some modem players on our server getting these messages for no reason in some OFP version, apparently because the slow connection caused the client not being able to respond in time to the request?
