USMC Sniper 0 Posted December 11, 2002 I really, really want to make custom muzzle flashes for my guns, I need a good explanation of how to make them, I presume you make a texture with alpha channels...but how do I make these? I have Paint Shop Pro 7 and I need SPECIFIC instructions on how to make them. I'm sick of the crappy white (All muzzle flashes are yellow, I watched over 20 gun videos today) OFP muzzle flashes. USMC Sniper 0 Posted December 12, 2002 Also, I did search for this, there were absolutely no tutorials on how to make custom sights for weapons.
USMC Sniper 0 Posted December 12, 2002 Fortunately Wardog emailed me the solution, mods can now close this thread.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted December 12, 2002 sniper, maybe you can share it with us?

USMC Sniper 0 Posted December 12, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Er, as far as muzzle flashes go, you just reminded me that I used Brassb's as a stopgap. I'll either have to credit him, or make some of my own. As far as the sight goes, I attach an example for your inspection. Alpha channels... It's been a long time since I used PSP, but I seem to remember that designating the alpha channel is very easy. As for the shape, you may notice that mine aren't perfect yet. I believe I can improve, and though I haven't tried this method yet, you should get good crisp images out of it. It works in photoshop Do you know of any way to convert .paa or .pac files back to .tga? If so, i think you'll find that most sight textures are at least 1024x1024. anyways: Open a new file, size 1024x1024. Save as .TGA. Gifs will not work. Select colour depth as black and white (not greyscale) Draw the hard shape of your sights, but not any lens fogging or blurring effects. I assume you are drawing the shape in black, so once you've completed the shape, invert the colours so the view, rather than the sight is black. Select the magic wand and click on the white area, and copy. Open a new 1024x1024 image. Create the alpha channel, then paste your white mask over it, and flatten the image. Go back to the original, and undo the negative. Copy agin, and just paste normally into the second image. Do not flatten. Save as Sight.tga (or whatever), and copy it onto your current project folder. Modify the config to point to it. <span id='postcolor'> I haven't tried this yet, but I was fiddling around with PSP and found it a bit easy making masks, however when I made them the image was very faded. Does anyone know how to make the blur effect or mud drops on the scope sights?
Stag 0 Posted December 13, 2002 Re: that info above; I have been playing with it today, and I can shave a few processes off that: 1. Open a new file. Make the size 512x512. (larger doesn’t seem to make much difference, unfortunately) add an alpha channel, and make sure its selected. 2. Select the colour WHITE, and draw a solid-filled circle in the centre of the image. 3. Invert the colours, so that the alpha and the circle swap places. In PSP I think its called negative image, in Photoshop, its Invert. 4. Draw in the crosshairs. 5. Select the magic wand, click on the white, selecting all of it, and copy. 6. Open a new layer, and select RGB channels. 7. Paste your selection into the new layer, and invert the colours again so it turns black. 8. Save the image as a 32 bit .tga, or the alpha channel won’t make it into O2. As for blurring and muzzle flashes: airbrush white directly onto the alpha channel. Mud? haven't got that far yet; I'm making this up as I go along.
USMC Sniper 0 Posted December 13, 2002 Maybe mud could be created like blurs, except a brown blur. How could I make text in the scope sight? Can the scope sight have a different color, say green by making something green?
Stag 0 Posted December 13, 2002 It can be done; just look at the ELCAN sight from Operation Northstar. I think I know how its done, but I've got other projects going. ...Nah, I won't leave you in suspense. create another object in the optics file and just paint the damned thing whatever colour you want. Oberon3d 0 Posted December 13, 2002 yes but..... What I need to know is not about alphas is about optic files? Are they pbos inside a pbo?....how do I make them or where do I save them?... Cheers
andersgrim 0 Posted December 19, 2002 i just made a wpn optic... i used red, yellow, and light blue, but in-game the optic doesnt show up... the only thing that shows is the small black part in the optics... do ofp support diffrent colors than black, white and red in the optics? or mabye not..... earl 0 Posted December 20, 2002 I knew I had seen a thread about custom optics somehwere, but I couldn't find it when I needed it. Â I figured it out myself by reverse engineering the FILO M24 mildot optics. Here's the optic view for my SR-47 with Trijicon ACOG 4x scope. ... *Update* I've created a new tutorial on making custom sights, it can be found in the new tutorials section: http://www.baconbomb.com/modworks
