Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 8, 2002 I don't know what im missing on this new addon. Most of the LODS are done. I have it in the game, but: 1. when it is sitting on the ground it is leaning forward and nearly into the ground, no matter where I put the land contact points. 2.Then, it will lift up into the air, but then it will start flipping end over end and will start spinning and flipping- eventually resulting in smashing into the ground and exploding before even getting 5 meters off the ground. I'm fairly new to this, i'm not sure about all of the different names of the components that might be needed. Also, I need to make a new configure file instead of using a default of the uh1 class. There isn't really any tutorials for the heli config. so im kind of at a loss of what to do. If anyone would like to help a rookie modeler, or have any clue what is wrong please let me know! I saw the script for viewing what a team member was seeing through a "helmet cam" and the script with controlling a hot air balloon's elevation- I just thought a mixing of the 2 could give a pretty cool remote controlled camera to take a look around at enemy bases Thanks Bullz eye on my back
edc 0 Posted December 8, 2002 Do you have one side of it set significantly heavier than the other?
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 8, 2002 I thought about that, since its basically a circle with the fan blades in the center of it- modeled after some military remote reconisiance vehichles. (plus its on the metal gear solid 2 game)..it is a little bit heavier in the front because the camera lens is the only thing making it non symetric. So i made some of the components oposite of the lens a little bit heavier to make the center of gravity roughly in the very center of the whole model. It may be a little bit off. So i will try making a few adjustments to see if that works. Thanks
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 8, 2002 Could the Land memory points cause the whole model unstable in the air..causing it to do the flipping and spinning?? I've been playing with them, since it still kind of bounces when the game first starts off
philcommando 0 Posted December 9, 2002 it seems u do not have a tail rotor thats why it spins. Chopper physics need the rear stabilizers to prevent the spinning, so OFP engine does not recognise the heli. Perhaps u can use the harrier jet config as u wont then need to model and LOD the tail rotor?
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 9, 2002 Good idea! I just tried the harrier configure file, and it became a lot more stable. I also entered a very very very small tail rotor (only a small dot is visible about 10m away from the main body). It still is very unstable and easily flips over and flops and spins around. I'm going to try and check the "stabilizing" component and see if i can get any results with that Keep the ideas coming!
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 13, 2002 Well, I'm still having some difficulty trying to make it fly stable. I messed around with moving the center of gravity and making it weigh more, but yet it still seems to want to shake back and forth now. I have the tail rotor, and the stablizing bar (atleast as far as my knowledge-which is very little on this- is in the right place) I just put it into the editor and in the "helmet cam" test mission. It looks pretty sweet and looks to be promising for a remote spy camera, I just need some help with getting it stable. Also, if anyone would like to help texture this thing- since i never have textured before. Just let me know! Thanks!!!
Silent N Deadly 0 Posted December 13, 2002 Could you post some Screen shots, if possible? Thanks.
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 13, 2002 I would post a picture but i don't have any URL to put in to post what it looks like. I could email pictures of it though. I did find a picture that i kind of modeled it after (instead of the camera being posted above the vehicle it is put on the front of it. Â
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 13, 2002 ok ok ok....I know i keep coming up with more and more problems.... but this one is a little puzzling for me.... I've been testing the model on the desert island... I finally have it where it flies stabily, doesn't shake or flip or sway. I then tested it on the everon island and it shakes all over the place???
philcommando 0 Posted December 14, 2002 hmm....could it be that the desert is flat but everon is hilly, thus it reacts to the everon terrain ( perhaps cos your creation is a small plane and area occupation is small)? How about scaling it bigger and see if there is any difference.
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 14, 2002 I think your right ....i made an exageration of 3 times bigger and it seemed to fly smoother...except for taking off it was still shaking...but i scaled it down and made one of the parts in the geometry bigger and it seems to be back to being pretty stable. Anyways....would anyone like to texture this thing? Also, if there are any scripters out there....i have a mission for you.. I don't know anything about scripting or how to even begin so i can't really do it myself. But.... I'm ussing the helmet cam script (that has been out for forever) to see what the spy camera is seeing... but my problem is that...i can't control the direction the AI turns nor at what height they are viewing the battlefield at..... If any scripter out there would know how to incorparate an interface while viewing the helmet cam to control the AI's direction of view in degrees and height- it would (in my opinion) bring a little more depth to flashpoint. Also, to turn off and on the night vision without exiting the helmet cam view. If this addon was used in multiplayer, there would be no problem as long as a non AI person controlled it... Anyways....please let me know
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 20, 2002 well....ive recieved word from one person that would like to join forces in making one..since they have one modeled but not in game...but i haven't heard back from them after sending an email saying i would like to help... I think the more people on this the better...so anyone out there wanting to help??? scripters and texture artists?
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted December 28, 2002 Hey hey hey! everyone! I've so far fixed hopefully all of my problems with the Geometry LOD of the cypher. It flies smoothly, but is very sensitive when it is flown into a city area. It has to be put into auto hover and slowly taken down the paths and centering with the strafe buttons. So far I have been able to carefully manuver it into a building and up a flight of stairs to sit and look out a window. The only thing to complete the addon is: 1. I need someone to texture it-since I've never textured before. 2. I need 2 pictures made to have as the icons in the command bar and map views. (optional) It would be great if someone that new how to create scripts and interfaces to make a way to control the AI flying it. (I'm currently trying to learn how to script and create an interface-so it make take me 50 years when it might take one person 1 or 2 days) Thanks!! Oh and if you're interested just let me know and give me your e-mail address! Bullz_eye
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted January 18, 2003 hey! some news on the cypher project im working on. So far the scripting is going great. Only a few more things to do and the basics of the remote controling of the cypher will be complete. Later i want to possibly add a few things to it: 1. laser targeting system to "paint" a target. 2. maybe create a cypher command vehicle that has a specific range which it could control it. Also, it could refuel and repair the cypher. 3. at certain health levels have a staticy (if thats a word) screen. progressively getting worse ofcourse. 4. rotation animations of the camera on the addon to coincide with the rotations of the camera script I really need some help though: I still have no textures and no software to even make them, nor if i had something- i have no clue how to do it. Hopefully really soon (within the week if all goes well) the only thing holding this back is the texturing. I need all the things that i previously described with a few additional things. Additions: 1. transperant greenish texture that i can use as a nightvision screen 2. a camera "site" or crosshairs texture
Koolkid101 0 Posted January 18, 2003 I have a question, is it possible to fly it without a pilot, i mean does the game engine support it? After all it's a spy cam!
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted January 18, 2003 actually not exactly, but the model doesn't have a proxy image of the pilot in it- so therefore you never see a pilot. Also, once it gets to the damage point where the pilot would eject an eventhandler imediately beams the pilot to the cooridnates [0,0,0] and sets his damage to 1. So you never see the pilot at all unless you were standing at the [0,0,0] when he is beamed there for a split-second. Dschulle has really helped a lot. He looked over my scripts and solved several small problems, and updated his helmetcam script especially for the cypher. Through the scripts so far i have made an interface where you can move left/right/back/forwards in small increments. I'm currently working on getting combo list boxes where you can pick the griddings of the map and have it move to that position. Also, you can turn on and off the lights. Pick the direction of heading of either the camera or model (they rotate independently now). The camera can be tilted up or down. You can control the altitude of flight in both moving and hovering modes and land. oh and one thing i failed to mention that would be needed is that a new sound would be needed. Right now the sound is an UH60 engine. These things would be a lot quieter!!
Koolkid101 0 Posted January 18, 2003 lol, i wish u needed beta testers, now that u explain that spy cam! cool!
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted January 18, 2003 haha....well seems like im testing it as i go along scripting. There will probably be a beta version since i hope to add more to it later on. Plus im not the greatest modeller in the world, so im sure it could be improved on. If you know anyone that knows how to do textures, it would be great if you could possibly drop a line to them that i need some help
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted January 27, 2003 Thought i would give an update for everyone. Â Here are a couple of pictures. One of them is the interface made to control the ai flying the cypher. The other is just a non-textured picture of the addon in game. Â I still can't find anyone to help with textures. If you know anyone please give them the word. It looks like the only thing holding up sending out the addon is the textures.
Bullz_eye_on_my_back 0 Posted February 5, 2003 Small update on the project again...with a question.... Ok...since i still havent found anyone to help texture I've revamped the look of the cypher since I found a better picture of it. It now looks exactly like the pictures. Â I've been trying to make the camera on the addon like a turret so that i can set it up where when the script rotates the camera, then the AI will target that exact spot ...that way if anyone was wondering if they were being seen.. then they would be able to tell if it was pointing at them. Â Also, I've created a couple of antenas too for the possible idea of a more strategic role...so then you could have a limited remote control range, but by placing the antenas around the map you could get a larger control range. Â I wan't to make an addon that is configured as the binoculars but can't seem to find anyone who knows how to do that. (reason for this is so that I the "cypher controls" could be placed where a binoculars or nv would be and when used would run the scripts for the cypher, and if you wanted to you could trade it over to another player, or place in ammo crates) The question is, can a gun turret on a heli rotate 360 degrees like a tank turret? Seems like all i can get is 180 degrees of movement. Oh and if anyone knows how to make new binoculars i could use some help there too! Thanks all!
