otherguy 0 Posted November 28, 2002 Does anyone know a way to get a sound file such as a .WAV or such, to play over the multiplayer game so everyone can hear it. It was done the other night by someone but I didn't get a chance to ask how.
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 29, 2002 The files have to be converted to OGG format first, but the process is easy and straightforward. For details, see this entry in the AvonLady's Unofficial OFP FAQ.
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 29, 2002 On a side note, I've encountered a problem with playing some OGG files, where all I would get is silence for the duration of the sound clip. Strangely enough, if I removed the OGG file from the SOUND directory and placed the original WAV file there, it would play correctly, so OFP is able to play some formats of WAV files as well. otherguy 0 Posted November 30, 2002 Thanks for the information. I converted the files to OGG and made the directory but the 9 custom button isn't able to be used. I see it but it is not highlighted. Any Ideas? Thanks
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 30, 2002 Are you doing that during a MP game? Are you sure you called the directory "Sound" and not "Sounds", and that it is in the Users\Active Player directory? Also, if you are playing on someone else's server, be aware that the admin has the ability to disable custom sounds.
otherguy 0 Posted November 30, 2002 I have it under my game name then sound. I am the server and I tried while my friend was on it with me. Is there some place that I have to turn custom sounds on maybe? Haven't had the game that long.
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted December 1, 2002 steal some any ones you hear in MP you now have on your HD while that person is playing ofp/tmp folder you'll see every thing, just tab out and have a looksie
otherguy 0 Posted December 2, 2002 I converted files to ogg but custom isn't highlighted in menu to use.
Mister Frag 0 Posted December 2, 2002 In that case, you probably have the files in the wrong place. Double-check the name of the active player profile at the Main Menu -- it is next to the Player: tag. Then make sure that the .OGG or .WAV files are in the c:\program files\codemasters\operation flashpoint\users\playername\sound directory, where playername is the name from the Main Menu. otherguy 0 Posted December 9, 2002 I double checked everything and it still does not let me use custom. Oh well. Guess it just doesn't work! Thanks anyway
SSG Plazmoid 0 Posted December 15, 2002 ensure the sounds are in your sound folder in your /user/name folder. create a new multiplayer game yourself and choose any map that's quick and easy to get into. test your sounds. ** Important: if you were making changes moving sounds into sound folder etc with flashpoint running you need to exit flashpoint and restart for it to pick up your (new) sounds. Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted March 22, 2004 how large can those files be? what is acceptable for the other servers?
joltan 0 Posted March 22, 2004 how large can those files be? what is acceptable for the other servers? Depends on the server, but most have a limit for custom files - if your file is biggger you can't connect (you get auto-kicked). Also some more popular servers don't accept custom sounds at all (and you may even get banned). In general just keep them small, only use a few selected sounds (2-3) at once and never, never spam the game with them! The problem with using many big sounds is that each sound you have has to be relayed by the server to all other players when you connect. Also every player connecting to the server has to download all the soundfiles by all players already on the server, leading to long waits while connecting. Edit: My squad (SES) has a limit of 20kb for faces and sounds. That's still enough for a short ogg.
