AdvanS13 0 Posted November 22, 2002 just got of gold edition 2 days ago, and played it for 6hrs straight...game rocks. i have a amd tbird 900mhz, 256mb sdram, voodoo 3 2000 w/16mb ram (old but free), seems to work pretty good. sometimes it gets jerky like in the huge battlefield mission. the graphics arent as good as ive seen on some of your guy's screenshots...but they aren't bad either. the textures are pretty good, just wish i could get it perfect like some of the shots ive seen here. i was wondering, if you recommend any other settings to make it perform any better? i did some searching, didn't come up with much. also, i can't take screenshots. its gets like vertical scanlines and multipies the image x4 or something. i tried grab clip save and still the same results. thanks, b. coleman
AdvanS13 0 Posted November 22, 2002 also, any other vid card recommendations? looking to buy a new one...because for some reason. this card looks really really bad on ms flight simulator 2002 ...cant figure out why.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted November 22, 2002 for Video cards, I suggest GeForce3 or up. the most generic answer i can give you for your OFP video performance could be that you have settings that maybe a bit too much. foe example, I have 750mhz with 396MB RAM and Geforce 2MX, and I don't have shadows and that multitexture thing that makes grounds look better. and it runs ok. By some games it works taking screenshots, by other I get, just like you said, a strange screen with funny colors and lines. I'd suggest for setting off shadows, less textures. That sort of stuff. I have many of those things off and it runs on my 450 mhz OK, but nothing more than that.
AdvanS13 0 Posted November 22, 2002 you choose not to run shadows? i have mine turned on. with a geforce 3 or up, will it make the game run to its full potential? also, do you think i need more ram? i want to make it run near perfect. and something that will make fs2002 run nice as well. thanks

TheOmega 0 Posted November 22, 2002 Voodoos where the best damn cards ever built. For sceenshots try HyperSnap tool. Just curious... if u get round it will u post a pic of the black Flag in Ofp. Id like to confirm something in V3. Either here or at [http:\\ofp.info] forums can do. If u get round it PM me when u do. Use init command: this setFlagTexture "black.pac"
AdvanS13 0 Posted November 22, 2002 what do you mean, black flag. how where?....im not dumb, but i don't know much about this game. except i kick ass at it.
AdvanS13 0 Posted November 22, 2002 woah, hypersnap works...what do you think? http://www.calinetworks.net/nwimports/Images/ofp.jpg -Placebo thinks good but no 100kb cigar
DestroyerX 0 Posted November 22, 2002 It looks better than by me. I tried Hypersnap but it doesn't work for me.
AdvanS13 0 Posted November 22, 2002 that made it a little blurry, but i think the voodoo3 does pretty good. still need a new card, for ms fs2002. refresh this post and, it wont look as blurry. had to reupload it. hypersnap didnt work for me, until i went to tools. then "enable special capture"...in there it lets you take glide/3dfx pics! DestroyerX 0 Posted November 22, 2002 AdvanS13, where did you see this? I don't see it under 'tools' or 'options'. Â I checked some other menu's but I don't see it. I'm using Hypersnap 5 DX Downloaded from download.com.
DestroyerX 0 Posted November 22, 2002 No Matter! I searched in the Help file and followed a little tutorial. It works perfectly! I never noticed this option, thanks m8.
Skulleye 0 Posted November 22, 2002 I got Voodoo 3 2000 (temporarily), 1Ghz Athlon and 256 MB SDRAM. I use 800x600x16, 1000m view distance, vehicle shadows, multi texturing and visual quality/stuff like that on lowest. This works perfect and it is much smoother than the Geforce 4 128 MB I used to have. With it I had 1024x768x32, 2000m view distance, vehicle/object shadows, multi texturing and visual quality/stuff like that on medium. Isn't this a bit strange? Shouldn't a GF4 work better than that? It got really choppy in large battlefield missions, but those work almost perfect on my V3 2000

The point is you used higher quality settings and the double viewdistance with the GF4. And I think the viewdistance setting causes a lot of additional CPU load if increased. Probably too much for your machine.

Take the sceenshot, post it here or at [http:\\ofp.info] forums can do. If u get round it PM me when u do. Ah, almost forgot, do mention your OFP version u where using for the screenies... Thx. Didn't think much about RAM and CPU, but of course that affect the performance too
MarcusJClifford 1 Posted November 24, 2002 It cannot be stressed enough how this game is SO CPU dependant, I had a KyroII card (About same performace as GF2) and upgraded to a GeForce4 4200 and it only made a little difference. That was on a PIII 850MHz. On my new laptop with a PIV 1.7 and a GeForce4 420MX the game runs so much better. even though the graphics card has about 1/2 the power of the GF4 4200. The only benefit of having an "overpowered" graphics card is that it can do 8x antialiasing.
