Do excessive addons in file slow things down?

Recommended Posts

Greetings. A simple question of which I have no answer to yet. Does having MANY/EXCESSIVE addons in my Res/Addon folder slow my games/performance down?

In my experience, yes.

Memory is consumed for every addon that is present, and in the case of the server (even non-dedicated) the files are kept open until the program is shut down -- just shutting down the server is not sufficient.

So lots of physical memory is crucial. For Resistance, I would recommend a minimum of 384MB for an enjoyable experience, and more if you have lots of addons.

Yes...the file with the 1.02GB of addons IS the one with all the addon pbo files.

Ok, so my question is (and I think I answered it myself already)...IS 1.02 GB of addons in the addon folder WAY TOO MUCH, AND does it slow the game down considerably??

The reason I ask is that I have made a MONSTER Vietnam mission with ALL 3000+ units allowed (suprises galore!wink.gif and I'd like to improve the movement a little more by doing whatever little thing I can do to speed it up. Thanks
