Moving tracks

Recommended Posts

I'm building the M109 howitzer as you might now, i have this problem with the tracks....

When i move forward, the texture of the tracks go to the right.

I've remodelled, reskinned and redefined the tracks in 3ds max and o2, nothing helps!

for some reason the texture of the tracks go to the right instead of forward.

Can someone please explain this to me and more importantly, tell me how to fix it?

the paladin has 2x7 roadwheels, 2 driving wheels and 2 tensioning wheels. the 14 roadwheels bounce and rotate like they should, the track follows the bouncing of the wheels, except for the stinking texture who thinks the animation is 90 degrees sideways.

Just guessing, but the engine animation offsets the UV's of the texture, so it sounds like you have the texture scrolling in the U direction, when the tanks is "facing" in the V direction, or vice versa.

Sollution? Your model might be rotated 90 degrees wrong in O2, or you need to set some property for the track texture, probably rotating the UVs 90 degrees.. that should get you on the right track. Pun very much intended smile.gif

rotating the whole tank is NOT the solution.. i allready tried it

very weird to see the wheels rotate along a radial line and the tank moves to the side ... smile.gif

i tried rotating the texture, but then i had to counter rotate them with the uv mapping didn't i?

result: exacyly the same... the HAS to be some setting in O2 for this, but i have no clue what or where it is.

Moving tracks are always animated by offsetting v-coordinate. Rearrange your texture accordingly.
