Wiki 1558 Posted November 28, 2016 Next year (2017), there will be the french presidential election. So far, François Fillon has been elected as the candidate of Les Republicains, french right (and will probably be the next French President de la Republique). The french left will have its own election in January. Also, Marine Le Pen (often compared to Trump) and Macron (fomer minister of the economy) are willing to race - as well as Melanchon. Wiki 1558 Posted December 2, 2016 Update! The French president, Francois Hollande is not going to race a second time!
Wiki 1558 Posted April 23, 2017 1st round of the french presidential race Macron (Center) 24% Le Pen (Far Right) 22% Fillon (Right) 20% Melenchon (Far Left) 19,5% Hamon (Left) 6,5% The next French President is going to be Emmanuel Macron (French people will never allow Le Pen to be elected). This is amazing as: -it's his 1st presidential race -both usual camp (Les Republicains and Parti Socialiste) are screwed. Like if the Republicans and the Democrats were out in the USA
JdB 151 Posted April 24, 2017 So basically the entire country is tired of Hollande and his policies and to remedy this they elect Macron who was Hollande's protégé in the socialist party. And people expect him to affect change because? Answer: They don't. People are uneasy with change so Le Pen and Melenchon don't stand a chance and they'll do anything to keep their lives the same no matter how much that might suck. Enjoy being overrun by the intolerant gold diggers while the elite that loves them so much and brings them over in literal boatloads takes real good care of itself behind the safety that wealth affords while the common people that voted to keep the deterioration of Western values going suffer. Every people gets the government it deserves.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted April 24, 2017 I admit that it musn't be easy to understand from abroad, considering that we're having hard time understanding our own elections...most people i know made their choice the very day of the election.... To sum it up : after 5 years of socialism with Hollande, we should have had a strong majority in favor of the center/right party, called Les Républicains. In january 2017, the polls predicted 30 % for the center/right party, which were more than enough to reach the second round. But their leader (Fillon) was then investigated by the justice and the center/right fell at 20%. On the other hand, the far right party (Front National), which was predicted in November 2016 to reach 30% in the first round made a subpar campaign, and hardly reached 22 %, but it's eventually enough to qualify for the second round. Then, a new center/left movement (Macron's 'En Marche') created last year mainly by former supporters of Hollande (the 'pro business wing of the socialist party') went from 0% to 23%, enough to reach the second round, at the expense of the center/right party and of the socialist party in disarray (which hardly reached 6 %). It also attracted quite a bunch of center/right voters, fed up with Fillon. The far left could also have reached the second round but was divided and didn't make it.
