dragon01 903 Posted July 3, 2016 Having recently gotten into ArmA editing, I've been slowly learning how mission editing works. Eden helped with that a lot. However, I'm still at a loss at how to make the characters actually talk. I'd like to ask for a noob-friendly, comprehensive, step-by-step guide on how to add dialogue into a mission. Since I'm planning a rather story-heavy (SP) mission, I'd also like to know how to set up a dialogue tree, the outcome of which could affect the mission events. I searched the board and didn't find anything useful. There are only video tutorials and I don't really want that. I want something I can have open on my laptop, while ArmA3 runs on my main computer. I did find this:https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/187118-release-simple-conversation-script/ It seems to be meant for side conversations. That's useful, but doesn't solve the problem of "main" dialogue.

dragon01 903 Posted July 3, 2016 Thank you very much. I only searched ArmA3 boards, no wonder I didn't find it. Is there anything important that changed between A2 and A3? Another thing, the demo mission from the thread is gone and seems to have been made for ArmA2 anyway. Can it (or an A3 analogue of some sort) still be found somewhere? kylania 568 Posted July 3, 2016 This looks like a nice tutorial for Arma 3 and kbTell:
Larrow 2823 Posted July 3, 2016 Here's the original example mission. Here's a little test mission I knocked up on Stratis. Please forgive the voice acting  no offence is meant to my fellow Europeans.
dragon01 903 Posted July 4, 2016 Thanks. I hope I'll be able to get it to work. I'm not planning to do VA until I have the entire mission in a playable(ish) state, but it seems that there's a way of accounting for that, too (if all else fails, I can always generate a silent clip long enough to enable reading the messages). The entire problem with most tutorials out there, including the video above, is that they hinge on having the sounds to start with. I want to be able to set up dialogue without sounds, just text in the radio chat. BTW, on topic of that, does this community have a "voice acting guild" of some sort? I'm not a good actor and have a distinctive, thick accent. While I suppose this could work for a Russian, there's no way I could do a convincing American accent (well, maybe I could get close to someone from Pittsburgh, but not for long monologues :)). I'm probably not going to be looking for help in that regard anytime soon, but it'd be good to know where to look.
Darcy_Gaming 0 Posted May 6, 2017 Yes, I only want to have some text chat for the player to read. I've been surfing the web for a while.
