Sound problems with 1.85 client...

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Following Problems here:

1. Whenever I ALT+TAB out of OFP 1.85, I'm sending a LOUD WHITE NOISE over Teamspeak2 to all my Teammates. I then have to disconnect from Teamspeak and restart it to get rid of it. Sometimes I'm able to ALT+TAB 10 times without problems, but the 11th time I get this problem... So far I have 3 Teammates deaf, 8 with hearing problems...

2. Sometimes, all sounds are gone! It's like I'm deaf all of a sudden!

These 2 Problems first appeared after installing 1.85! I did NOT change anything on my system (except installing Patch 1.85)...

Tried everything, from re-installing every known Driver for the SB Live! to pulling down the Hardware-Acceleration... nothing helped! So I believe it's a OFP-Issue...

System:

P4 1800

768 MB RAM

SB Live! Player 1024 (latest Creative Driver, dated 17/07/02, 25 MB)

Windows XP Prof. SP 1

OFP: Resistance 1.85

Any Ideas?

Maybe you should try this:

Do not Alt+Tab out of Flashpoint in the first place. Switching a running application in Direct3D is more often than not a bad idea. Luckily for me, it works fine smile.gif

Ahem.... I am ALT-Tabbing out of EVERY Application without problems, it workes VERY GOOD in OFP until 1.85 Client was installed.....

So PLEASE..... don't tell me to "not do it", okay?

I NEED to be able to ALT-TAB out of OFP, just to connect/reconnect to my Voice-over-IP Program in case of a crash.... so you're telling me to leave the server and shut down OFP first???

Nope, that's NOT an option here!

That's nice, but even Microsoft (the makers of your operating system) advise that any Direct3D application be exited from within and not minimized as it puts a great strain on the system causing it to either crash or completely lock-up in many cases. Also don't expect BIS to support you with this. The problem is not in OFP or 1.85 patch, the problem is that you're trying to do something which isn't recommended.

Alt+Tabbing in my experience is a luck of the draw thing, some games will hard lock if you try it, some are happy to alt+tab backwards and forwards all day, also I've found it gfx card/driver dependant.

I see no valid complaint to a game not alt+tabbing then or now, I would imagine there's not much that can be done to fix it.

I've had mixed results alt-tabbing as well, it seems to do alot of swapfile activity trying to get back to the desktop, so if you don't have a fair amount of ram or a decently fast hard drive you could have chronic problems as well. I won't even try to alt-tab over on my lower powered pc, as it crashes every time. The main gaming pc usually works fine alt-tabbing, but I still get the occasional crash.

FWIW, I've NEVER had a problem with crashes or lockups while Alt-Tabbing out of OFP with Windows XP and a GF3 Ti200. I always run fairly recent Detonator betas, currently V40.72.

However, as Angry Radish pointed out, plenty of physical RAM is recommended. I don't experience slowdowns while in the game itself, but my system (2.6GHz P4, 512MB RAM) grinds for a while when shutting down the non-dedicated server after a couple of hours.

I have 768 MB of RAM in my PC, should be fairly enough!

And, I want to point it out again, it ALWAYS worked until OFP 1.85 came out! How come it worked up to 1.75 and suddenly it doesn't work anymore??? So it definitely MUST be something they changed between 1.75 and 1.85, because nothing changed except OFP-Version!

And please have a look at Problem #2!

THAT one occurs even without ALT+TABbing! And, you guessed it, it showed up first in 1.85!
