LuckyArma 3 Posted February 1, 2016 Like the title says, lag is worse in helicopters. If I play as infantry it's not so bad, and the game is playable. If I fly a fixed wing it's not too bad, but as soon as I get in chopper or even look at a chopper(not kidding) the lag gets bad, down from 30 or 35 fps to 20 fps and once the heli is spool up it drops to the low teens, and gets worse from there. Anyone had similar lag, and is there a way to improve it other than lowering view distance, which I've done but it only gives a few fps more, but not enough to make it flyable. austin_medic 109 Posted February 1, 2016 specs, is it on an SSD? are you running mods? if so which ones? is there other stuff in the background eating up cpu cycles or hard drive read/writes? is it in MP or SP? not enough info other than the fact I can tell you to turn down settings other than viewdistance so it will switch models to the low poly version faster at closer distances (specifically object quality and texture quality could help). Som crappily optimized mods may only use a single level of detail, thus no matter how far away its rendering at max quality, which makes lag worse since there is much more stuff to draw when flying, so game usually tries to use lower quality versions of the model in question so theres less triangles to calculate for the GPU making it easier to handle increased load
ineptaphid 6413 Posted February 1, 2016 i do agree with the post above but also, you mentioned that your fps drops just by looking at choppers? Are they modded choppers?-if so I may know something about that. If they are vanilla then when in flight you may need to lower view distance, especially if flying above a large town or city-rendering all the buildings etc will affect performance. LuckyArma 3 Posted February 2, 2016 As I said in my OP it's "multiplayer lag" it's in the title. Anyway, I fly the Humming Bird and the Little Bird AH-6 the black one. I have 5 mods running right now, MELB, CBA vs2.2.0, BWI, RHS: United States Forces, TFAR 0.9.8 I have my view distances set as low as possible and still be able to look for a landing spot. I'm running the game from a HD not a SSD. I did notice that at times I have HD writes going on, and the game will freeze completely for a second or two when that's happening. Not sure if it's page file or something else like Norton Anti Virus, which I can't turn off because I don't have password access because it's part of my internet package from my not so great ISP CenturyLink(not a plug, more of a rant). I don't have any web browsers running, and I've disabled everything from the startup menu that windows will allow me to disable. My current CPU is only a dual core FM2 socket with AMD A6 5400K, so the A10 6800 is the best I can put in that; do you think the better CPU would make much difference in multiplayer fps? Other than that, I've got 16GB of DDR3 1600 RAM, with a GTX 750ti 2GB GPU. I use the advanced flight model, not sure if there's any difference in frame rate between the two. Far as I know I've tweaked the settings much as I can, My connection is 10mbs with anywhere from 53ms to 93ms ping depending on the server.
ineptaphid 6413 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) Okay-to answer your first question,Yes a better cpu will improve MP performance. The cpu is arguably the most important component when playing Arma-view distance is very reliant on cpu over graphics card. RAM and GPU wise you are good to go. For some reason many people claim that Arma performs better on Intel when compared to AMD-I dont know if there is any truth to that-I use an i5 and I find them very good. I'll do a bit of checking into your issue and see what I find ok? Edited February 2, 2016 by ineptaphid Mistyped while researching-looked up wrong CPU
LuckyArma 3 Posted February 2, 2016 I was thinking that quad core would at least double my speed. I have the FM2 socket, BTW, so the AMD A10 6800 is the best chip I can put on that board. The i5 is a little bit better chip, and uses less power, but it uses a G2 socket whereas the AMD uses a FM2 socket.

Yes you are right-your cpu should be fine actually.Sorry-I mis- typed while searching your cpu and researched a different one by mistake. Your setup should not give to many problems-this may be caused by servers you are playing on Keep the same settings and spawn a chopper into an empty map in the editor-what are the results then? LuckyArma 3 Posted February 2, 2016 It always does better in an empty map. In the editor, it only lags after I've been doing a lot of rapid turn maneuvers for an extended period of time, like 10 or 15 minutes of crop dusting style turns.

Okay-let me think about this-I'll get back to you in the morning(its nearly 3am here) Have you tried the obvious things? like making sure your GPU drivers are all up to date, verify the integrity of the game cache or even reinstall the game? LuckyArma 3 Posted February 2, 2016 Yep I just loaded a Humming Bird into Altis, just me and the chopper. out of the bird I was getting 45 to 55 fps, in the bird I got around 35 - 40 fps, but after a while it dropped to around 30, then I landed the bird too hard and just went rabbit hunting. lol
