Lazarus_Long 0 Posted October 21, 2002 I'm having major problems with getting my controls set up. Â When piloting an airplane the throttle seems to work fine: Throttle up on the joystick is throttle up in the game, and throttle down is down... Now when I try to fly a helicopter, the throttle is completely backwards. Â Throttle up on the joystick is throttle down in the game and Throttle down on the joystick is throttle up in the game! WTF Â It's driving me crazy, I can't fly the helicopters like that. Is it the 1.85 patch that changed all this stuff? Â I don't remember having a problem like this before. Â I just went back to playing OFP after a period of playing other games so I'm a little rusty on how I had my controls set up in OFP before. Â I remember that I used to use the keyboard for the throttle controls, but now I can't figure out how to get the keyboard to work as my throttle anymore either. Any OFP pilots out there, please help me. Â BTW, I'm playing Resistance v.1.85 and I have a Microsoft Force Feedback Sidewinder Pro joystick.
Lt_Damage 0 Posted October 21, 2002 What you are reporting has always been the case... I am quite used to it now and couldn't have it any other way really. It makes sense to me. Pulling my throttle back makes my chopper go higher, which is what I want really. Pushing it down makes it go lower. When in plane pushing forwards makes it go faster and pulling backwards slower.. I wouldn't want it any other way...
Mister Frag 0 Posted October 21, 2002 The throttle on the joystick acts like the collective when piloting a chopper -- pulling it back causes the chopper to rise, pushing it forward makes the chopper drop. I frequently fly choppers in OFP, but rarely planes. It takes me a second to adjust to the difference, but it doesn't bother me a great deal.
Lazarus_Long 0 Posted October 21, 2002 Good Lord, you guys are all backwards!! I've been practicing with the reversed throttle now for about an hour, but I just can't seem to get used to it. I've decided to go back to the old keyboard method. Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the replies.<span id='postcolor'> I think you are the on that is backward here. In real life a chopper's collective is pulled upwards for gaining height and lowered for lowering the height. Since we got throttles as there are no collectives on the pc-market (and how would you mount it on your desk?), the closest thing to reality would be to pull back on the throttle for gaining height. Planes are: push for power Choppers are:pull for power
Lazarus_Long 0 Posted October 22, 2002 For maximum realism with a conventional joystick throttle I have to insist that up on the collective = up the throttle! Â I mean, think about what you guys are saying: "up on the collective = down the throttle" This doesen't make any sense at all. I guess it boils down to personal preference. Â It would be nice if BIS could include an option for this. Like the inverted mouse thing. Â Should be a simple thing to add to the next patch? Â BIS...? heyvern69 22 Posted October 24, 2002 Most people that fly helicopter sims (Including ME) requested this feature. Pulling back on the throttle MOST CLOSELY MATCHES WHAT IT'S LIKE in REAL HELICOPTERS). However, in my requests for this feature, I always recommended an OPTION, so the user could choose whether to pull or push the throttle. I understand that there are LOTS of gamers who are not into realism, so I *always* requested an OPTION. Unfortunately, BIS & Codemasters made the decision to go with a more realistic throttle instead of putting in an option. While their choice is great for people who like realism, it causes tremendous distress for gamers. Sorry. But after some time, you CAN get used to it. Saying that the throttle action makes "no sense", is utterly and completely WRONG *IF* you've ever seen how a REAL HELICOPTER throttle works. Pulling the game throttle back to increase altitude, most closely resembles pulling the throttle UP in a real helo, which increases the collective pitch of the helo blades and makes the helo rise.
