astutavian 3 Posted September 13, 2015 Does anyone else use a HOJAM (hands on joystick and mouse) setup for flight in Arma 3? I recently got a Thrustmaster T16000M and have been experimenting with this. My bind setup looks like this (still experimenting): The advantages are that I can do constraint-free freelook with my mouse while using the joystick for flying. I am left-handed so perhaps I am uniquely suited to be able to do this. I used to fly right-handed with my mouse, using my keyboard for throttle and occasional sharp adjustments, so controlling all aspects of flight with my left hand is nonetheless taking a little bit to get used to, but I am already coming to rely on the freelook capabilities and do better at steep maneuvers than I was able to with the mouse. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has done this, or just thoughts/ideas in general about it.
ratszo 17 Posted September 14, 2015 Keybord is alien to me --always stick in one hand; Mouse in the other. No clue how these KB guys fly their infantry into combat ..., and don't get me started 'bout pedals.
astutavian 3 Posted September 14, 2015 Keybord is alien to me --always stick in one hand; Mouse in the other. Southpaw? Northpaw? I don't have pedals but the twist function works fine as long as I have a friction pad under the joystick. What I do wish my joystick had was an on-stick throttle slider and more stick buttons. What I do wish my joystick had was an on-stick throttle slider and more stick buttons. Throw right' bat left. Basic thing 'bout using a stick is good software to programme the stick --a dry input is not near enough. My saitak js software been using for years, know the in's & out's.. Really, it's all about combining actions between index finger & thumb --plus the x, y, z axis'. For example, my button 4 (under the thumb), lowers weapon, zooms out & freelook. --oh and click twice will change combat pace. It gets very idiosyncratic. Shift keys can change the profile, i have a helo profile on my button 9. If you got saitek software. pm me 'cause i got lots of tricks.
astutavian 3 Posted September 14, 2015 ... If you got saitek software. pm me 'cause i got lots of tricks. I have a Thrustmaster joystick so my equiv would be T.A.R.G.E.T. but I haven't really explored it much - just a few things here and there for games other than Arma 3 that don't let you directly bind joystick functions. joostsidy 685 Posted September 14, 2015 I've got X55 HOTAS which I use with pedals + mouse! I'm a righhanded player, who strangely uses left hand for mouse and right hand on numpad normally. With HOTAS I have right hand on stick and left on throttle. The mouse is next to the throttle which I use for freelook (hands off throttle) sometimes. If I can't take my hand of the throttle I use joystick hat-switch for looking around.
Danny84 4 Posted May 1, 2016 I bought a joystick thinking it would be better than the mouse but i've found out it isn't. I changed all the settings to what other people use for joystick but when it comes to the throttle it only goes up half way which means you can't use the increase/decrease properly. When are they going to fix this issue so we can use a joystick to it's maximum potential? So far I find it easier to use a mouse and keyboard than to use the joystick. teddymosart1 40 Posted May 1, 2016 My problem is that I need some way to do what pedals do with a Stick.Twist don`t quite do it.And it needs to go throug the set-up every time I want it .Is there a .DAT file for Arma 3? If they would make one "in-house "at Bis,I would love that. I never seem to get this to work as needed. Will a Profile work in X-55,if I load it in the Software? Has anyone tried that?. Where can I download such a Profile? For X-55 and X-52. Does someone has made one? This need to be addressed at Bis! This breaks H.O.T.A.S with every update. :(   . Flying is great, just don`t break that part of the game!
