[evo] dan 79 Posted August 4, 2015 Hi guys, I am planning on making a dockside crane for Arma 3 and would like to know if the following is possible to do with ropex or whether it'll have to be attachTo method before I start modelling. I was thinking of using the slingloading feature within the game to make the lifting part of the crane. Now, i'm unsure if classes other than HeliX will support this and this is one of the pieces of info I would like to know. Here's some examples of what I mean: http://g3.img-dprevi...8DD975C17A8.jpg https://lh3.googleus...ays%20crane.jpg It wont be a moving one, it'll be fixed in place and able to rotate around its fixed position in order to load unload stuff. Any other advice on where to go with this would be useful too as I think this could be useful for the community for making their own cranes on vehicles and statics. Maybe this thread could be used to gather all info on other this topic?
rundll.exe 12 Posted August 4, 2015 Using the new ropes, I see no reason why this couldn't work. I'm nut sure if it's possible to attach a rope to an animated (the top of the crane) part though. Interesting to experiment with! You have to use some scripting to make it work ofc.

Interesting to experiment with! You have to use some scripting to make it work ofc. This is my biggest worry, is it possible to make the rope extend and retract as the lifting point (i.e. where the rope is attached to the lifting boom) will not be moving and so the rope has to extend/retract as needed to get the right height. I might have a look to see if I can do it in the editor or whether i'll have to make a test addon to try it. Maybe: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ropeUnwind https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ropeCreate ? Wiki data is wrong try this: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/180108-issue-with-ropecreate-alternative-syntax/?hl=rope
JohnC 11 Posted June 27, 2016 I`d love to see a functional dock crane dan. Any progress on this?
[evo] dan 79 Posted June 28, 2016 Not at the moment, I've been working on learning how to model. Once i've got a model done I might push it along a bit.
ob-andy 21 Posted July 6, 2016 The Atlas LHD has a working crane on the side that might help if you studied how they did that one.

six_ten 208 Posted April 1, 2017 Any progress on this? I'm looking to do the same thing, also had the idea to try via slingloading, and my first searches brought me to this thread. Does anyone have a working crane?
[evo] dan 79 Posted April 1, 2017 No, I haven't had the time due to work/other projects to have a go at a crane.
