cBurnett1404 10 Posted June 22, 2015 Hey guys, I'm new to this whole ArmA editing and modding scene however I hope to join the ranks of great content producers or just even the ranks of people who have a fully custom mod.. However my problem is this. I wish to import one of the pre-made ArmA 3 models into blender and change its texture to a pre-made one. I have already made the texture, it was just a simple edit of a already made texture, this was just as a test. When I go to open it in Object builder it crashes, so I downloaded a mod call "ArmA 3 Tool Box" this is a mod for users of blender. Trying to import the P3D file in blender resulted in a "MDL Load error". I then found out that they need to be 'De-Binarized'. Firstly: How do I do this? Secondly: Is there a quicker way to doing this, importing a P3D model and changing its texture. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Connor Burnett
PuFu 4600 Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) A3 3d models are binerized (as in locked), so you cannot open or edit them. If you wish to simply change the textures, use hidden selections Edited June 22, 2015 by PuFu
cBurnett1404 10 Posted June 22, 2015 Thanks. I'll give that a check. And I know they are locked I was asking if there is a way to unlock them.

PuFu 4600 Posted June 22, 2015 Yes : ask the author to send you the mlod (=unbinarized) version of it. and in the case of BI's models, there is no way around it.
John Spartan 89 Posted June 22, 2015 @Burnet - take a look here [hidden selection manual] Basically if you are interested to start with a simple texture edit for the in-game asset, the easiest way is to create a small config that is part of a PBO with your new textures. Regardless is it vanilla game asset, or community asset it can be easily "upgraded" without violating BI's EULA or any community authors right via patched/dependency config. For example here you can download F/A-18 aircraft PSD files with and actual replacement config example. Player still needs the original game/community addon. But you can easily add your own version [your work only] of it without a need of altering the original. Does that makes sense and hope that helps?
