Car: Conflict between turn car left and turn gun left

Recommended Posts

I am a four year veteran of Arma 2. I have had Arma 3 for 3 days.

Place a soldier on the map (me).

Select Empty > Cars Hunter HMG (this is a vehicle with a MG mounted on top)

Get in the vehicle and start driving. Turn Left is bound to Mouse Left and Turn Right is bound to Mouse Right.

Drive to the practise range.

Now stop the vehicle and get into the gunner’s seat. I note the gunner has his own binding.

Turn the gun Left is bound to Mouse Left and Turn the gun Right is bound to Mouse Right. Actually both bindings were blank so I shall now bind them.

Turn gun left and turn gun right now works fine.

Fire at practise targets and now head home.

Get into drivers set. Cannot steer left or right!

Make the gunners binding blank and now I can steer the vehicle again.

There is a conflict between Steer Vehicle Left and Turn gun Left!

Would it not be easier to aim OR steer with the mouse (i.e. set one or the other to analogue keys i.e. steer left to A, steer right to D and turn turret to mouse X, and raise/lower turret to mouse Y or vice-versa)?

Yes I am using the mouse to steer and using the mouse to turn the weapon. It is a 2 man vehicle so I cannot do both at the same time.

When the gun is bound with the mouse the vehicle cannot be turned in any direction.

Sorry, the way I read it was you were attempting to bind keys to both actions. Anyway, I just tested in game and am able to both steer the vehicle with my mouse and then turn the turret with my mouse when I switch seats. Make sure you've 'disabled vehicle freelook' in your game options. It may be that the automatic freelook is interfering with the mouse-steering.

EDIT: Here are how my controls are set up:

I start as a soldier. Freelook is OFF.

I turn Freelook ON and make sure it is working. I turn Freelook OFF and the get in the vehicle.

I note that vehicles do not have a separate Freelook - so I cannot disable for vehicles.

I start driving the vehicle and turn left and right. Then I turn on Freeview and it works fine.

I turn off Freeview.

I bind the mouse with the gun turning left and right. The gun works just fine - but the vehicle is now in Freeview so I can no longer turn left or right!

If I bound both the steering and the gun to the mouse - Freeview is always ON and I cannot steer!

Erm, yes they do. If you'd read my previous reply properly you'd have seen that I mentioned it. Here it is highlighted in the 'Game' options for you to see.

With the option disabled, and my controls defined as I have in the previous reply, my game exhibits the behaviour you're looking for.

Apologies, its Dropbox not liking me using 'img' tags on images I've uploaded. I've substituted them with links instead.

I never found Game Options General! Thank you!

In the meantime I came up with another solution: I created another character. By default he uses the default settings and all work just fine.

I then added my mouse to control certain moves - and all works well.

It means I have not duplicated what ever problem I caused!

.

As an added bonus, armour now feels heavy and awkward when I steer - just as it should. It no longer drives like a sports car!
