1.44 update States 1.2 gigs but uses over 7gigs???

I'm updating through steam and it's dl 7 gigs of data.

It's creating an addon folder with a bunch of pbos.

I've deleted all I could on my ssd to get 7gig and won't finish dl.

Any ideas why it states 1.2gig needed but really dl 7gigs?

1.2g for the update, 7Gb for the whole game ? I'm sure that Steam does something strange with encoding and therefore you will need double what it says.
