Cannot memory map

Recommended Posts

I like a number of other people who have posted here, have a problem with a 'Cannot Memory Map' errors. First it was campaigns1985.pbo, some two weeks ago. I dragged this to the desktop and OFP and Res ran for 12 days without any further problems. Yesterday I got this error regarding O.pbo which I found in Res Addons. Somehow the first time I saw this, the game still ran. However in Mission Editor the island of Nogova was almost featureless - no textures, no bridge, a few houses, and a scrambled overview map. I would be interested to know if 'Fade' has anything to do with this confused.gif

In accordance with the board instruction to search before posting, I searched and found other posts regarding this type of error, and I followed the instructions regarding configuration in Res Preferences. I can state this has not helped. I get the O.pbo error as the game crashes to the desktop.

I have original discs for OFP, Red Hammer, and Res - no hacked versions, warez or anything else of that sort. And my pc is working properly.

The other option of uninstall and reinstall was a last resort, and this also achieved nothing In fact when I unistalled, I even went through Find Files / Folders to make sure every trace was gone to avoid a conflict- yet when I clicked to reinstall it said Res was already installed and asked if I wanted to proceed. This means that there hidden entries in my registry.

Therefore I either format my whole hard disk and reinstall my o.s and everything else, or accept that I have spent fifty pounds on three 'coffee coasters.

I don't think that would be fade. I think fade messes w/ the accuracy of the weapons and stuff. Do you have any addons. If so try deleting them. THis might get locked.

Yes I have tried deleting unnecessary addons.

My comment about Fade was only speculative as I have never seen it before I could not think how else it could have happened.

As regards the topic being locked by the moderators. If they wish to then they can - it is their forum.

I only posted here because the only help I have ever had was from other OFP fans not from the game developers. It does seem to me that the computer software industry has a unique opportunity to absolve themselves from any resposibility with the 90 day warranty. If I paid the same amount of money for a printer, a radio, etc the manufacturer would be compelled to resolve the problem or replace the product and for free within 12 months.

I have ensured that everything this end is in order and can do no more than that.

I will just swallow the loss and not buy B I S software again.

Anyway thanks for your reply.

If any moderator wants to remove this post or ban me then your are free to do that, I am only speaking my mind. Resposibility like courtesy is supposedly reciproacal.

just a couple of stuffs

what's your sys spec?(RAM, CPU, gf card...etc...etc.)

is your motherboard using VIA chipset?

more sys info may lead to the solution.

The chipset being used has no bearing on the memory mapping problem. It will come down to one thing -- a lack of memory.

Removing some addons and/or increasing the swap file size will be the quickest solution. Adding RAM is better. Shutting down unused programs and services will also help.

Finally, dragging the offending .PBO file onto the Desktop makes no difference either. If anything, it consumes a little extra memory which Windows Explorer allocates and needs to keep track of.

I`ve the sane problem but it concern files "music.pbo" or "1985.pbo" and "resistance.pbo" (when I change campaign who I would like to play).

Solution is simple: FREE RAM. To do it I use MemTurbo.

In my configuration (512 RAM and approximately 800 MB AddOn folder) I need circa 300-350 MB RAM to easy work. This solution help when I see message error on the begining, during load game`s files (splash screen).

The second case (change campaign) I solve launch both version OFP (1.46 and Resistance). Sequence depends on campaign who I played earlier. It is connect whit couple of crashes but in generally method works smile.gif

Sorry for my english.

I've only encountered this problem a couple of times, and has generally been when I've had a lot of addons installed and/or running other apps in the background.

You have a problem, you searched for the problem, the results you found haven't helped you, thus you made a post reporting your problem and the steps you've taken to try to fix it, that's the correct thing to do, nobody is going to ban you or delete the post or lock the post for that, if everyone else acted the same as you on the forums by checking things out first then we would have a lot less work to do smile.gif

Now as Ralph earlier asked what are your complete System specs, driver versions, etc. etc. Without those we cannot help you but suggest the obvious which you say you've already tried smile.gif

From what I have seen the problem may be related to "not enough memory" and too many addons.

On another note:

Most of the file dates on my OFP cd are 8/01 and I have had it more than a year and has worked well for me and I have gotten lots of use out of it.

OFP works on a fresh WinXP install unlike other games (Tribes 2) and even runs on my laptop with a Savage video card.

OFP is a programming masterpiece and if you didn't buy anymore BIS products you will be running software that is behind the times.

Buyers of games like Tribes2 and BF1942 are complaining of problems and are more likely to get a refund for product defective

In other words....you think you have problems?
