Key Information:

Here at The Rifles GU, we aim to represent one of the largest infantry regiments in the British Army, The Rifles. The Rifles are made up of several Battalions covering the Commando Trained Light Infantry of 1 Rifles, the Light Infantry of 2 Rifles, the Light Mechanised Infantry of 3 Rifles, the Mechanised Infantry of 4 Rifles and the Armoured Infantry of 5 Rifles. It is these Battalions we aim to represent with ArmA 3 on a campaign by campaign basis. Ensuring our members with a good and realistic mix of missions in order to keep things relatively fresh and exciting.

We also have a detachment of skilled pilots who represent the Army Air Corp, flying many missions in support of our Riflemen on the ground including Close Combat Attack and Emergency Close Air Support, ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) as well as transportation of Riflemen, supplies and equipment.

We are a Casual Mil-Sim or 'Realism' Unit, aiming to conduct our operations as realistically as possible within the constraints of the game, but removing some Mil-Sim aspects such as calling each other Sir.

When a Rifleman of The Rifles GU deploys to the virtual battlefield, he/she does so not just for their own enjoyment, but also for each Rifleman in their Section, ensuring their enjoyment also.

Currently, we conduct training and operations on Mondays and Thursday, between 1930 and 2200 hours.

We are currently recruiting in both The Rifles and Army Air Corp. Those who apply to the Army Air Corp will have to deploy for a short period of time with The Rifles for familiarisation purposes.

We run our own custom mod pack, including all the kit a Rifleman would ever require in any of our Operations, as well as the kit for our enemies. This includes exclusive mods made by our in house devs.

About Us

The Rifles GU, is a relatively new GU to the ARMA series, by name at least, starting in February 2015. Here at The Rifles we draw on years of experience that has been gained through various transformations that this GU has taken, most recently the change from 3 Commando Brigade GU, to The Rifles GU. Before that we have also been 1 Royal Irish GU.

Naturally, during these transitions we have lost some members, however with each change we have learnt and grown leaving The Rifles GU as it is now in a solid position, with strong foundations laid for us to expand further, not only in size, but in skill.

Here at The Rifles GU, we are more than just a Gaming Unit, we are a community. A community that takes great pride in representing the real Rifles Regiment as authentically as possible within the boundaries of ARMA 3, whilst managing to balance that perfectly with the enjoyment of the overall community.

Organisation and Recruits

Since changing from 3cdobde, it was identified that there were many things that needed to change, this meant a huge over-haul of our organisation, both in and out of game.

Now representing The Rifles Regiment, we utilise brand new equipment such as the Jackal, Foxhound LPPV, Mastiff and Ridgeback PV's as well as the potential for operating out of Warrior IFV's.

Currently, our ORBAT currently sits at two over-sized infantry sections with a small HQ Element. In the coming months we aim to expand to a full Platoon with 3 Full Sections and expand our HQ accordingly.
Unlike some GU's, we have built our ORBAT from the ground up, ensuring that our command structure echo's the requirements of our Riflemen on the frontline.

We have also implemented a more realistic and formal training procedure that spans from initial training, on wards to specialist roles such as Pilots Courses, Forward Air Controllers Course and Medic Course. Other courses such as the Platoon Snipers course and Platoon Mortar Gunner course are also in development. Included in these are our own exclusive, in-house mods that will add authentic equipment to these roles, moving away from the standard ArmA 3 equipment used by other GU's.

As a new recruit you will be put through our Basic Training where you are taught the basics of being a Rifleman. Once completed, recruits are free to join in with our sessions. Following this is Phase two training, where basic navigation skills and Rifleman skills are tested. Those who pass achieve the rank of Rifleman and can go on to do other training courses that are on offer. Training for our recruits normally lasts about 3 hours spread over two separate nights.

Those who join wishing to be a Pilot are still required to under-go basic training as a Rifleman to ensure your best chance of survival should you be unfortunate enough to be shot down.

Once this has been completed, applicants for the Army Air Corp will under-go our basic Pilots course that is conducted over a number of sessions. Once completed, pilots can progress into different Flights of the AAC flying an array of different AAC Airframes, including the workhorse that is the AH-1 Wildcat, capable of conducting pretty much every mission required from those on the ground to the very specialised AH-64D Apache, whose role I do not need to even begin to discuss.

Operation Demeter

Operation Demeter was our first Campaign proper as The Rifles GU and was wholly successful.

Demeter took place on the map of Isla Duala, a British Commonwealth Territory that after years of Civil War the local armed forces were over thrown and the country fell into the hands of three Rebel groups, along with all the military kit left behind by the local forces.

The Rifles, who were on training exercise in Cyprus were re-deployed to the area as part of a NATO QRF, tasked with re-stabilising the country.

Some short videos of the campaign can be found below:

Training Rotation

During this training phase so far, we have re-capped on some basic skills and drills to ensure that there is no skills loss between campaigns. We have also begun to introduce our new training courses and have started plans to put people through some of them before the next campaign kicks off.

Below is Part 1 of 4 of Exercise Immortal Fade, a live fire exercise against a 'Russian' enemy where we trained in taking enemy depth positions. Unfortunately due to an error in the mission making, our 'Russian' foes decided against the will of the mission maker and did not guard these positions, but instead roamed the AO hunting us down. Which made for quite an enjoyable mission, although not quite achieving our original training goals.

We are coming towards the end of our training rotation before we 'deploy' on Operation Spartan Shield. This makes it a perfect time for new recruits to join up, it'll give you time to complete your basic training, get assigned to a section and settle in before we deploy.

If you're interested in joining The Rifles GU, our website and teamspeak details are in the opening post of this thread.

Upcoming Campaign

We are due to start our next campaign in the next few weeks. The details of which at this moment are being kept secret from a large majority of the GU as it will be an urgent deployment as part of a British Quick Reaction Force.

If you would like to be a part of this, read on...

Training Rotation

When I last posted, we were rounding up a rather long, but necessary training rotation to allow us to re-cap on basic skills and drills and to complete the change over to The Rifles. This Training rotation was rounded off neatly with our pre-deployment training and basic vehicle drills package that would best prepare us for the upcoming campaign, Herrick XXV.

Unfortunately, plans for the other campaign mentioned above had to be scrapped due to the mission maker not being able to commit enough time to complete the campaign.

During training, our Riflemen have picked up basic drills and manoeuvres for effective deployment within our Ridgeback vehicles, some of these can be seen in the videos below.

Herrick XXV

We're just approaching our 4th day of this deployment. Unfortunately due to work commitments and personal tiredness I haven't been able to get some of the ops recorded, but so far The Rifles have conducted familiarisation patrols in the region of Clafghan. On Day 1 we went East and encountered a mainly positive response from the local civilian population, although we were greeted with 7.62mm party poppers by those that weren't as pleased to see us. Day 2 we pushed West on reports of a Taliban HVT being in the area. We quickly learnt that the western region of Clafghan was very anti NATO forces and after having a given the Taliban a bloody nose fell back to Camp to re-organise for a greater offensive into the area the following day.

Unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. On returning to the Camp through previously un-travelled terrain, we got stuck in the middle of a Russian era mine field. This is where Day 3 (or 2.5 if you like) picked up. We navigated our way, slowly, through the minefield whilst facing a counter offensive from the Taliban hornet nest that he had disturbed. After escaping the minefield we took the fight back to the Taliban before heading back to Camp to collate Intel and prepare for our next outing.

Recruitment

Our recruitment for Riflemen is open as always. However, with recent growth and taking into account of the growth we predict in the next few months we are also opening up recruitment for the Army Air Corp. So if you enjoy flying helicopters, after completing our basic Rifleman training you will be able to enter directly into Army Air Corp Pilot Training.

For those who are interested in becoming a Riflemen, new courses are now also available (or soon to be available), including but not limited to; Drivers Course, Regular Radio Users Course, Sniper and other Weapon Courses as well as Courses that could lead to promotion such as the Section Commanders Battle Course.

Joint Operation Ajax

Perhaps our biggest news over the last months is that of a hugely successful joint operation with the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment unit on the island of Altis, named Operation Ajax. Our units worked fluently together and I think the experience from both parties was wholly positive and we aim to build on this to produce a strong relationship between our GU's with the promise of more Joint Operations to follow. Operation Ajax, originally a one of joint op may now become a series of ops or campaign. :D

The entire (edited) series of videos can be found below:

Operation Holidays II

Our next campaign is due to start on the 18/06 and is a re-visit to the island of Sahrani. LCpl Vestige, the campaigns creator, has gone the extra mile of creating news publications that have updated us on growing destabilisation of the region during our training period.

"Sahrani saw a heavy amount of fighting in this season. An eerie silence has fallen over the battlefields since 2 weeks and few to no incidents are reported throughout the region. General Kunuu and his MILITIA have taken over control in most areas. His forces have cleared out competing insurgent forces throughout towns and villages, clearing the main roads and dominating high ground way into the north.

The international forces have withdrawn all elements from the island except for a detachment of African Union troops guarding the airport at Paraiso for ongoing evacuations as well as base for the remnants of an international police force engaged in talks with regional leaders."

To have a glimpse of what happened last time we responded to militia uprisings in Sahrani, see the below video:

Recruitment

Our recruitment for Riflemen is open as always and we are on the cusp of becoming a full platoon, making this a really exciting time to join The Rifles.

We are also in need of some more budding helicopter pilots. Regardless of your experience, with real life pilots within our GU you will be up to scratch in no time. Our Army Air Corp pilots mainly conduct Close Combat Attack, Emergency Close Air Support, ISTAR (Intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance) and Transportation missions in support of The Rifles and their manoeuvres on the ground. If this sounds like it's for you, jump on over to our forums and apply.

For those who are interested in becoming a Riflemen, new courses are now also available (or soon to be available), including but not limited to; Drivers Course, Regular Radio Users Course, Sniper and other Weapon Courses as well as Courses that could lead to promotion such as the Section Commanders Battle Course.

Operation Hood

France has over the past year had problems with the massive refugee numbers entering France. After the collapse of the french economy, France  turned to civil war due to clashes between right and left wing parties. After resigning from the EU parliament and NATO.
Aid organisations at the french border of Spain, helping refugees stuck at the border, has reported that some of that some of their personal have been captured, wounded by the "Free France" Forces, some even missing.

After a missile lock from a "Free France" controlled Mirage 2000 on a Royal Navy Frigate, as a show of force, the UK Parliament decided to send a task force to the "Free French" controlled Island of Pianosa on the request of Spain and Italy. Both Nations have seen unprovoked attacks on forces at their border.

As Operation Hood comes to a close and the Free French Forces beaten back TheRiflesGU move on too a new sighted target. Isla Duala!

Shortly following a routine pre-deployment phase Operation Stonemason will see TRGU engaging with local militia.. and some other factions from the rough area. But don't worry. With the re-vamp of the Training map the upcoming rotation promises to show new and exciting things, among other additions. But for now you can find a small description of what can be expected during Operation Stonemason below :

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Recent attacks on peacekeeping forces in the north have limited UN peacekeepers to Kinsella airfield and areas south of it. Fearing a resurgence of militia reign in the north, the UN security council is discussing to reactivate Resolution 7655a, backing an international Intervention force to be deployed in an attempt to reestablish security.

NATO forces deployed to the Republic of Afrene, tasked with training and advisory duties to local security forces, are on standby for a deployment to Duala."
