Arma3 ping much higher than other tests on same network.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm looking for a things to troubleshoot related to my high ping in ArmA3.

I get pings of 22-30 ms using the command prompt, trace route, both to google, and speedtest.net

For some reason, all Arma servers are showing ping rates starting around 160, and I'm frequently getting booted for ping too high with rates like 600.

It looks like ArmA is the only thing doing this.

Is it possible that my ISP is somehow throttling communications normally associated with gaming?

Is it possible that it's a setting in ArmA?

I just need to know what to troubleshoot. BattleEye keeps kicking me from servers for high ping.

Thanks for ideas.

So, I've found a work-around, but I don't understand why it works.

If I learn the IP address of the server I wish to join, and use the "remote" button in the bottom right of the server browser, get only that server on the list, and then use the join button in the bottom right, I get proper ping at 23ms. Pings are 100 times this if I double click a server from the list.

Of further interest.

I get a different initial ping in the list if I put the port with a colon in the first line, than if I put the port in the lower line, of the remote window.

Performance seems to be the good rate, regardless of what the listed ping is, as long as I use the remote connect window.

This solved the problem for me:

  1. Go to Start > Run and type in: regedit.
  2. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\.
  3. Create a new string value registry setting named CafeRate.
  4. Give the CafeRate regkey a value of 10000 and progressively decrease the value until the issue is resolved. A rate of 3000 should be considered the minimum value.

some firewall program can happen that. if you using COMODO, you must be using game mode.
