suchey 0 Posted October 4, 2002 I know that there isnt any word regarding the patch or the fixes or anything...and I dont intend to start yet another thread to flame bis or anyone else...its just that in running my site and in the dedicated servers, it is plain to see that the community is getting restless...I think that alot of this could be squelched by simply giving a statement of some sort...if patching is still a month away...fine...but I think an official word regarding this would be enough to cool the jets of alot of players. Lt_Damage 0 Posted October 4, 2002 Yes I agree. That is a good idea however I hope people don't always act this way when they want BIS to do something.

suchey 0 Posted October 4, 2002 I think that alot of it is due to the fact that the community as a whole got used to being "in the know" on what was going on...the developers regularly visited the boards and gave updates, the FlashNews section was tended too regularly, etc etc. Lets take the "FlashNews" section as an example...regular updates across the board until just before Resistance released and then a 4 month gap in posting with no info. OFP seems to be nearing the end of its development cycle and I think the current crop of players that enjoys the game and doesnt want to see it fade into oblivion are getting nervous based on things that have happened in the industry in the past...can anyone honestly say they havent been left hanging out to dry by a game company? Im sure most of us have been there when the patches stopped and the companies stopped giving two hoots about whatever game it is that we bought. Now, Im not saying this is what will happen here...Im just giving some reason for why many people may be on edge about this. I can say with some certainty that a 10 minute post by a developer saying "this is where we are, this is where we are going, we cant give an EXACT timeframe, but here is a decent estimate" would certainly slow the noise in the community a bit in regard to this. Im just throwing in my 2 cents here...if I didnt like the game I wouldnt have taken the time to post this, or run a fan site, or a server...Im not making threats or lighting fires...and I dont plan on giving up playing this game any time soon. Just one man and his oppinion. Take it for what its worth.
Guest Posted October 4, 2002 The reasons for not giving out release dates are several. First, during development pressure on the devs is bad since it forces them to sacrifice quality for time. People get much more disappointed when you don't hold a promised time frame then if you don't give out estimates. Look at the o2 case. The reason why there is no release estimate right now is because it is very difficult to tell when it will be released. A patch has to be tested both in-house by BIS and by Codemasters. If a bug is found it has to be fixed and the whole procedure repeated again. The patch is now in the testing phase. When it has passed Quality Assurance it will be released. Take it easy and have just a little more patience, believe me, it is worth the wait Closing
