J.P.A.C.S. - Joint Precision Airdrop & Cargo Systems

Recommended Posts

This project will introduce a new and more efficient way of loading/air-dropping cargo/vehicles to forces on the virtual battlefield. What I am striving for with this is basically when you drive a vehicle up to the lowered cargo ramp of a transport aircraft, you will get an addaction opion to "load(vehicle name here)" and that vehicle will then despawn and be held in a type of queue. So the vehicle's model itself will not actually be contained within the cargo hold of the cargo ship's airframe. After take-off the pilot/co-pilot/crewman etc.. will (probably use the action menu at first) to select a drop zone, when the aircraft is within the radius of 150m to the center of that designated drop zone & the ramp is lowered, an action menu option will appear (an entry for each vehicle you have loaded into the plane, ie: Drop M2A4 Slammer(1) and so on) When the desired vehicle to be dropped is selected the script will call that vehicle that was "loaded" on the ground and attatch a cargo parachute to it and spawn it below/behind a selected memory point on the plane and will then be dropped. This is the only way I can think for combat logistics and resupply to work, as Arma does not like us putting models inside of other models, especially on the larger end of the scale. This should not have any hit on performance, and add some functionality to some of the larger aspects to resupply.

This is my first attempt at creating a modification, and if anyone with experience or enthusiasm would like to work on it with me, I would enjoy hearing your ideas and having some assistance with some of the roadblocks i'm sure to run across.

Looks pretty interesting

Two Questions

Will the Chutes be affected by the Wind so that there is a maximum wind strength at which the JPACS delivers savely?

Do you plan on adding a new parachute model ?

1.) BIS is currently working on a new realistic weather system for the engine, hopefully by the time they release it I will be at the point to where I can use it. But at the moment I am just focused on bringing the core functionality to life.

2.) I might retexture and port the A2 OA cargo parachutes, but currently haven't made any plans as to adding a new parachute.
