Wasn't that why Baghdad was putting up the fireworks show? They couldn't lock onto anything? And the F117's relative absence of jet thrust illumination is a moot point because jet engines don't flame in OFP, yet (a hopeful word).
Uziyahu 0 Posted October 13, 2002 Why can't you make it with the bomb bay doors open? That's not such a big deal, especially when you're only 6 miles from the most distant target, anyway.

Pentagon now officially confirmed that the F-117A was tracked by an unidentified ground radar and that two SAMs were fired at the aircraft. First reports suggested that the F-117A might have been tracked by a Czech-made Tamara passive radar - three passive receivers, each mounted a truck. Yugoslavia operates such radars in a somewhat modified form. However, latest information suggest that the F-117A was tracked by an old Soviet radar - a mid-1950s radar operating in 165-190cm wavelength range. *edit* Just realized that the author of this website is serb and obviously quite biased, so take what you read with the proverbial grain of salt
USMC Sniper 0 Posted October 13, 2002 LOL, I noticed "Adolph Clinton" and instantly noticed it was VERY biased, I doubt all of that. Â Â Nato aggresion, lol. Bill Clinton, Javier Solana, war ciminals. Anyways, I think an F117 would be ideal for OFP, it was created during the mid 80's i think. There are many reference photos, videos too, guess anyone making it could get good sounds.
RaptorAce 0 Posted October 13, 2002 i dont remember if i said this already but... Stupidly, the US used the same routes for bombing runs at approximately the same time, the Serbs realized this and launched salvos of missles during these times, one of em prolly got lucky and was able to track the 117, shooting it down. Tovarish 0 Posted October 13, 2002 It's interesting, but all the sites I find on the subject of the F-117 shot down over Bosnia that have ANY amount of detail other than "was shot down by Serb Anti-aircraft defences" are Serbian and reek of propaganda. (The way all western sources give vague information on the subject also smells sort of funny). I just tried to look for info from NATO's side that had any detail on the SAM system that shot down the Stealth, and came up with nothing. However, the general consensus amongst the Serb sites is that it was SA-6.

But I'm certain that knowing where to concentrate their radar scan played a big part in this. An interesting note - the big winers in this seem to have been the Russians - the Serbs let them examine the wreckage and presumably they also took a few pieces.
