peeps 0 Posted September 24, 2002 I recently bought a Geforce 4 TI 4200 to replace my old Geforce 2 MX 400. I decided to put the geforce 2 MX 400 on my old computer in replace of the voodoo3 (well i did say old). Now my old computer has operation flashpoint V1.75 (resistance) installed on it and about 800MB of addons on it, this worked fine on the old voodoo3 card (if a little jerky). However when i put the geforce2 MX 400 on and installed the drivers etc etc the game would go back to the desktop just before reaching the 'operation flashpoint' splash screen. I don't the "cannot memory map.pbo" error as i could fix that. However if i remove addons from the addons file in the main operation flashpoint directory the problem stops and the game works fine. I can't understand how it could work on the voodoo and not the geforce. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? (btw its 256MB RAM if u need 2 no that)
BraTTy 0 Posted September 24, 2002 Heres a thought, you didn't say what you have for memory on the older computer but my thoughts are: A Voodoo 3 has 16mb ram and can only run 16bit accelerated color The fact that your MX card has at least 32 megs of ram on it and runs in 32bit color,it is loading more into video and system ram and maybe maxing out
peeps 0 Posted September 25, 2002 its a strong possibility, is there anyway i could get it back down running low detail, only faster on the Geforce2MX, i'd rather keep using Direct3D instead of GLIDE, i always ran the resolution on both cards in 800x600x16
Burl 0 Posted September 25, 2002 What about checking the refresh rate of the monitor? Didn't see something awhile back about 75-80hz?? Just a thought Burl
theavonlady 2 Posted September 25, 2002 How about manually setting your Windows virtual swap file size to 1000 and see if that helps.
peeps 0 Posted September 25, 2002 I don't have 1000MB spare . That probably should tell me something but i've tried removing aload of games from it so there should b enough room for it 2 work, my good computers had less then that b4 and it worked fine
peeps 0 Posted September 25, 2002 Actually i just checked i have 1.2GIG on the old computer and the swap file is max of 1304 which should b fine, the monitor thing doesn't help either. Any other ideas?
theavonlady 2 Posted September 25, 2002 Your swap file size may indeed be the problem. BTW, are you using recent Detonator drivers?
peeps 0 Posted September 26, 2002 nah it can't b the swap file, i've tried the latest drivers from nvidia.com and they don't fix the problem, its a toughy
