1.8 Million Catalans want to vote their future, what's gonna happen?

Today more than 1.8 million Catalans ( according to the Police ) along more than 11 kms in a peaceful demonstration pro-Independence vote / pro-democracy in Barcelona.

If Scotland gets its independence, and it goes reasonably well, I can see them stepping it up as the Spanish government wont then have a good excuse to not to.

Hmm, depends on how Spains law handles such referendums.

In Germany people of the whole federation have to vote if one federative unit wants to get independance, so I dont think we will ever see independant Bavaria :D

The Spanish Constitution technically doesn't forbid a consult, and in fact Catalonia's "Constitution" ( Estatut d'Autonomia ) allows that. That last one was voted by both the Catalan and the Central Spanish parliaments.

But the actual Spanish Gov. is alleging that is "unconstitutional", and as the Constitutional Tribunal is elected by them, that's gonna be a bit weird.

The EU has already scolded the Spanish Gov. in the past for using the Constitutional Tribunal as a politic one.
