devilslayersbane 28 Posted August 20, 2014 That's what i was getting at? It would strictly be dependent on your number of cores, e.g how many internal headless clients have to run on a single core. If headless clients are supported by Arma 3, they should automatically run internally for anyone with more than one core/thread.
mamasan8 11 Posted August 20, 2014 From what I've read, headless client has its issues. You get performance increase but also bugs. And I feel HC should have been part of the 1 license-deal. Somethings wrong when you have to buy 2 licenses to get decent performance. Splitting AI per faction? I'd rather see splitting AI dependant on a certain number of AI, a number determined by benchmarking. Say 50 AI per core. But also allow to change the number manually. But this is never going to happen. Too many problems. How do you solve the fact that a mission has 200 AI but players CPU can't support that? Make missions for all CPUs? Everyone has at least a dualcore these days. AI should be split on two cores, at least. And just make sure an AI-group isn't split on different cores. You could even put AI on the GPU. AMD Nvidia has GAI. (Not the best name, I think)
blackpixxel 53 Posted August 21, 2014 And what exaclty happens in Multiplayer? My PC don't have to calculate ANY AI behaviur. And I am still limited to 20-24 FPS. What needs so many CPU power there? Just placing units and interpolate their behaviour to the next data package from the server? I don't think so. I have the feeling that every client is also calculating the whole AI behaviour in a way, which would be absurd.
