sgtsev3n 12 Posted July 7, 2014 hello, as the title asks. my maximum temperatures are 70°C on lowest settings except texture which is set to ultra. my average temperatues are between 50 and 65°C. specs (notebook): - windows 8.1 64 bit - 8 gb memory DDR3 L - intel core i5-4200U @1.6GHz with turbo boost up to 2.6 GHz (4 core) - nvidia geforce gt750 m with 4 GB dedicated VRAM 3 another questions: - are the temperatures to high ? - am i able to play with all settings on middle or high ? - if i set everything to high or ultra (but view and objects distance to under 1000) can it cause a overheat to my graphic card / can it melt my graphic card ? mistyronin 1181 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) GPUs are designed to be able to bear higher temperatures than the CPU. In a CPU 70C would be quite high ( the max would be 90-95C then your PC turns off automatically to prevent damage ), in a GPU it's perfectly OK, they can reach up to 110-120C safely when working hard. As I said even if you try to melt your graphic card, it would turn off automatically. Edited July 7, 2014 by MistyRonin
miketim 20 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) Yeah those temps are fine, what ^ he said is all correct. I will say though, in the event that some freak accident happens, and your GPU goes horribly wrong, your computer SHOULD turn off, but it doesnt always.... I played Crysis 2 for like 6 hours straight on max graphics, back when I had two gtx 560 ti in sli, and the bottom one totally got F-ed up. Part of the copper tubing in there got all warped up and shit, and a small tiny part on the end broke off, probably got bended and fell off from the heat. I didnt use MSI afterburner back then so idk what the temps were. No joke. But my horror story of my former gtx 560 ti, (I lost a good card that day...:() should not scare you. Its ok. Your fine, dont even worry about it unless you feel your GPU is getting choked, or its fan is like too slow and losing power, or having intermittent up and down really big spikes of temperatures. But, as long as you feel your fan is running consistently its fine, if it looks like it slows down or "loses steam" so to speak, be warned. Ckrauslo 12 Posted July 7, 2014 My GPU usually goes around 60 degrees Celsius
sgtsev3n 12 Posted July 7, 2014 ok thank you guys, i downloaded two programs to have a look into the temperatures during playing arma 3. they are good, no overheat. what makes me wonder is: even if i set "textures" , "objects" and "terrain" details in the option to ultra and increasing a bit the view distance, it doesnt change anything from the temperatures, they are the same as when i have everything on lowest settings. Ckrauslo 12 Posted July 7, 2014 The GPU will increase it's temperature just because the game is running
