If Gamespy browser is going away, why is there an option to alternate?

Recommended Posts

Arma DEVS. I've noticed we can now switch between Gamespy and Steam in the INGAME browser (I use a separate launcher for Arma 3, players had to notify me about the in game browser) I've noticed a massive player drop on my server tonight (typically 30-45 each night). Today it dropped to 20 players and those were the people who were using Playwith6 and Arma 2 launcher that were able to join. Could you PLEASE post another SITREP or something regarding the changes to the Gamespy browser, I believe a reminder is needed. When I checked it out my server came up but the ping showed 350 where it normally shows 50. This is a massive problem that needs to be addressed.

With "GAMESPY" displayed at the top right...the PING is accurate (under 100ms). When the tab on the top right shows "STEAM" the ping is inaccurate showing 150-350ms.

What's going on?

(I know Gamespy is being dropped, I mean what can be done to fix this, and why did you keep two options for finding servers if Gamespy is being dropped!?)

It sounds like once Gamespy goes down, the option to alternate will be removed.

What happens to Six networks and the wonderful tool within when BIS releases its "Game Launcher"

I suspect that the BIS öauncher will be rather basic without the advanced stuff you can find in community made launchers.

They outlined that you would be able to specify command line parameters with their launcher. A lot will depend on the sophistication of their mod workshop implementation.

This is the launcher I used for Arma 2 and use for Arma 3. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241 works great and best of all it's light weight.

If the arma devs use that as a base/guide for their launcher I'll be happy. I'm also hoping that they create a system similar to playwith6 where users can log into any mission and the launcher automatically downloads and installs all the mods required to play on that specific server.
