Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted September 11, 2002 The neat thing about airsoft is how they look real, how far can they shoot?
sgtvor 0 Posted September 11, 2002 Most AEG's have an accurate range of about 60-75 feet. But even at that range you'll have a decent arc on the shot. The BB's are also extremely light compared to paintballs, so even the slightest wind affects their flight.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted September 11, 2002 check out the SOCOM M24 on the site that Warin posted. The reviewer said he was consistently hitting targets 70 yards away (he had his souped up though)

sgtvor 0 Posted September 11, 2002 Yeah, some sniper rifles are powered up to some insane levels to offset the realtively short range of airsoft engagements. I've seen a PSG-1 that fired at over 650fps, and heard of some that fired up to 800fps. Usually those guns are "recreation" only, since most organized games have a fps limit attached to them. The only time I've heard of those kind of rifles being used is during special CQB competitions. Basically, you and your CQB team, including a sniper if you have one, are allowed to set up around a kill house that holds several hostiles acting out a scenario. When you go in, you're "graded" on how realistically your team performs the entry. You compete against other CQB teams based on your scores. In those situations, snipers are allowed to setup where they please, so a longer range allows them to more realistically engage targets and is almost encouraged. In most organized airsoft games, the chance of a close engagement is to high to allow someone to carry a weapon firing 650 fps projectiles though.

xmurderx 0 Posted September 11, 2002 do the guns sound realistic? I read a review that the xms produced the sound found in the real thing. also, do rifles blowback? one more (kinda stupid), do they produce a muzle flash? (ok, so maybe this one is real dumb)

(ok, so maybe this one is real dumb) From all I have heard they sound like air rifles, not centerfire cartidges being fired. I am sure there is some sort of recoil, especially in the electric guns with high cyclic rates. And no, no muzzle flash For that you'd need combustion, not compressed air.
eh remraf 0 Posted September 11, 2002 Save yourself the time and money and get some BB guns. I find playing with BBs is a hell of a lot funner than playing with Airsoft : )
USMC Sniper 0 Posted September 12, 2002 Do airsoft make a small "click" noise when they fire? The CO2 BB gun i have makes something like that.
Denwad 0 Posted September 12, 2002 AEGs make a ZWACK sound. You can go to www.airsoftextreme.com and look for videos.
sgtvor 0 Posted September 12, 2002 Ok...well, the "Standard" airsoft rifles are AEG's that fire about 250-280 fps. Usually organized games will have a FPS limit of around 350-400. Anything higher is just dangerous in possible close combat. Every electric gun I've ever heard makes a "zzzzWHACK" sound like Denwad said. No muzzle flash of course , and actually the recoil when firing even on full auto is slim to none. AEG's generally do not have a "blow back" action to them. Gas powered rifles usually do though. The only AEG that has a blowback bolt movement that I know of is a particular version of the HK PSG-1.
