Freezing problem

Recommended Posts

Yes, in case someone asks, I have searched. Now heres da beef:

AMD Athlon V6(or something like that) 1.5 ghz Processer

Radeon 7200

Creative Sound Blaster PCI512

Maxtor 2B020H1 20 Gig Hard drive

261,600 RAM

Its hard to describe. I like to make missions for myself to fiddle with. Knowing that you must chage things now and then, I have to jump in the game, out the game into editor, in the game, out the game into editer, etc. After about 5 times with this, my game has this problem of completly freezing up the entire computer. After pressing almost every button(even the windows key tounge.gif) nothing works but a hard reset.

Knowing computers, this will probobly damage this over time. I have installed all my new drivers. I wasnt sure if my computer was VIA or not. But I also installed the VIA 4-in-1 drivers from Avons site(suggested). But it still freezes up. I know you guys talk about going into your BIOS and changing something, but I have no idea how to.

Anyways, any suggestions? Answeres?

I would start by updating the Radeon video card drivers, ATI had problems with some of them when switching video modes.

261,600 RAM?confused.gif? Riiiigggghhhhttt thats prolly 256mb but Windows reads RAM like a blind man reads writting on a toilet wall!!!

Well all I can suggest here is make sure your PC is not overheating... An Athlon at 1.5ghz should be no higher than 48c-49c really, I think they suffer damage at about 55c.

The second thing you could try is closing all back ground programs using ALT-CTRL-DEL, Leave SysTray and Explorer open though! I've heard virus scanners and cloneCD can cause problems with OFP. Maybe another 128mb or 256mb could solve this problem but anyway I'm sure you'll find the problem 1 day smile.gif

I think I solved the issue. OFP must have thought my Radeon was T&L compatibal when it really wasnt. So I think turning it off solved all my issues. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.

The OFP Preferences program usually doesn't select the "Direct3D with HW T&L" rendering engine by itself, even if your video card supports it. I think you must have unintentionally selected it at some point.
