Performance problem that my friends with similar hardware aren't getting

Recommended Posts

Right, so pretty much since early Alpha I've been having big issues with performance in ArmA 3. Recently, me and four friends decided to join a domination server. I am aware that it's a fairly heavy mission, and that script heavy missions tend to lag, but I suspect something else it going on here.

All of my friends were getting playableish performance, with framerates around 20-30. It's not good, but I ended up with far worse results. The odd thing is that I've got hardware that's very similar to two of those friends.

Here's a video demonstrating the issue, I recorded it with my phone to prevent capture software making it worse:

In this video I was playing with everything turned down to low, and visibility sliders set to 500.

As you might be able to tell it's not just the frame rate that's bad here. According to the settings dialog I was getting around 5-10 fps, but at the same time I was getting severe stuttering. Again, I am aware that it's a more complex mission, which are performance heavy. But I get this issue with smaller and simpler missions as well.

Normally I'd dismiss it as my hardware not being up to the task, but four of my friends were doing just fine on the same server with the same or worse hardware.

I've tried disabling my AV software, as well as disabling the Steam overlay. Neither made any difference.

Here's my hardware:

Intel i7-3930K 3.20GHz

8GB DDR3 RAM

GTX 680

Windows 8 x64

It's likely a problem on my end, but if anyone has any insight into what might be causing this I'd greatly appreciate some input.

Virus/malware/fragmented hard drive or slow hard drive/overzealous anti virus

*Edit: this was during multiplayer? the problem is most likely out of your control, sorry.

It looks very odd. Have you tried overclocking ? The best solution is install windows 7 with all newest drivers and than install the game. I do have i7 2600k with 670gtx and with almost all ultra I do play 30-60fps on multiplayer with lots of AIs. You can join my dedicated server and tell me what fps you have so we can comapre results. server name: arma 3 ranked.
