Crash when altering video settings? Please help if poss

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I changed my GFX card recently to a GTX 470. Its set on Very high and Ultra in the video settings. I am getting around 40fps in open terrain and 25 in towns (single player workshops.)

However when I try to change settings in the video options, any setting which needs to reload textures etc (goes black screen and loads up again) the game crashes completely?? I am trying to lower AA and shadow etc but crash everytime?

When I look in administrator event viewer it just says the problem is with arma3.exe nothing else. I was expecting the physx.dll or nvidia driver crashed but nope??

Please help if you can.

Cheers

It is the bug on latest dev patch. What can you do is try to change arma 3.cfg file in "yourdisk:\Users\yourprofilename\Documents\Arma 3\" folder. It goes like:

steamLanguage="English";

language="English";

forcedAdapterId=-1;

detectedAdapterId=0;

detectedAdapterVendorId=4318;

detectedAdapterDeviceId=4489;

detectedAdapterSubSysId=158996846;

detectedAdapterRevision=161;

detectedAdapterBenchmark=70;

displayMode=0;

winX=0;

winY=27;

winWidth=1920;

winHeight=1128;

winDefWidth=1920;

winDefHeight=1128;

fullScreenWidth=1920;

fullScreenHeight=1200;

refresh=60;

renderWidth=2189;

renderHeight=1368;

multiSampleCount=1;

multiSampleQuality=0;

particlesQuality=2;

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

HDRPrecision=16;

vsync=0;

AToC=15;

cloudsQuality=5;

pipQuality=0;

dynamicLightsQuality=4;

PPAA=1;

ppSSAO=1;

ppCaustics=1;

tripleBuffering=0;

so above you can change cloudsQuality, multisamplequality, etc, also look at file in the same folder but with the name as your profile name in arma (my is xpkplx) so the file is xpkplx , here it is:

anisoFilter=16;

textureQuality=4;

shadowQuality=5;

tripleHead=0;

useExtendetInfoType=1;

singleVoice=0;

so you can change texturequality, shadow, etc. Change it to desire, save and start game , check if there are some changes in video settings. (It should work because I've changed a few things via those files)

cheers, pawel

Ah ok cool, wasn't quite sure if it was the GFX card or dev update. It must have been "implemented" at the same time as I swapped GFX cards :). I thought it could have been a corrupt profile or .cfg so I tried new ones of them too.

Can I ask, your render width and height are higher. Do you run higher than 100% rendering?? and do you notice a difference with the MaxFramesAhead and detected ones. I left mine unchanged this time and didnt notice much difference?

Glad its the Dev build though (didn't bloody think to try stable lol)

Cheers

... have to confirm this bug in dev branch too ...

As PawelKPL said, only solution currently, manual editing the config files.
