RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Okay, I finally decided to give up waiting on Codies to create a linux server and install wine and try it that way - despite how mickey mouse it seems. Anyways, I need some help from anyone who has setup a server with wine. If you would please look at my logfile and tell me what the heck I should be doing (!?) I'd appreciate it very much. The command I ran in xterm to recieve this was: wine OFP_SERVER.EXE and I also tried winelauncher OFP_SERVER.EXE but it seemed to give the same errors... http://www.knifegrind.com/log123.txt In the process of doing this, the OFP Server window pops up just like in windows and then inside the window (console I guess) it says "Creating Dedicated Server" but then quickly after it opens, the title of the window says "Server Creation Failed." And then it just sits and does nothing -- although I never really waited longer then a minute or two...? Thanks a heap! -Red
kegetys 2 Posted August 23, 2002 What ofp version server are you trying to run and what wine build are you using
RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 23, 2002 OFP Original 1.46 Wine version 20020310
kegetys 2 Posted August 23, 2002 1.46 wont run as it only uses directplay which doesnt work with wine. You need to use 1.75 or one of the MP tests with sockets.
RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 23, 2002 But the latest I see here is 1.46...? http://www.flashpoint1985.com/download/download.html ??
azalin 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Use the ded-server from the resistance CD. It's only available from this source I guess?
RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Oh bugger!! Another trip to BestBuy! Less someone wants to post it? You don't need the license for the server, correct? All I need is the 1.75 server exe, correct? But doesn't this mean I'd be hosting resistance games? So I probably have to copy the whole cd over to my server, right? Oi! Tactician 0 Posted August 24, 2002 Well, I suppose you could run a 1.75 server without the bis_resistance addon. That means no Nogova and no other new stuff. Old missions would work fine, and you'd be using the newer netcode.
Mister Frag 0 Posted August 24, 2002 But you can't connect to the socket code using V1.46, so what's the point, unless you just want to run the server for the benefit of other people.
RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 24, 2002 So then I just have to run a Resistance Server and copy all the cd files over, right? I'll try that today.
RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 24, 2002 Well, I'm still having problems. It still is telling me to add a WinMM section to my WINE config file. I looked through the WINE website and found what looks to be a default config and I added it but it just made it worse. All it did was hesitate after I tried running it and then simply said that "WINE exited with a successfull status" and puts me back at prompt. I have a feeling that the WinMM section needs some sort of custom configuration, right? Any info around on how to do this? Or better yet, is there any info on how to create an OFP Server (on linux using wine) from start to finish? Some documentation would really help! ????? RedFive GUN 0 Posted August 28, 2002 I ran winecheck and everything checked out okay except these two things: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">--------------------- checking system devices used by Wine --------------------- 023. Checking sound device /dev/dsp... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â OK. 024. Checking audio mixer device /dev/mixer... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â OK. 025. Checking MIDI sequencer device /dev/sequencer... Â Â Â BAD (no kernel driver for /dev/sequencer?). - ADVICE: module loading problems ? Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/modules.txt. ----------------------- checking registry configuration ------------------------ 026. Checking availability of winedefault.reg entries... Â Â OK. 027. Checking availability of windows registry entries... Â CRITICAL (entry "Default Taskbar" not found). - ADVICE: Windows registry does not seem to be added to Wine, as this typical Windows registry entry does not exist in Wine's registry. This can affect many newer programs. A complete original Windows registry entry set will *not* be available with a no-windows install, of course, so you'll have to live with that.. 27 tests. 0 suspicious, 1 bad, 1 critical, 0 failed. Wine configuration correctness score: 80.75%<span id='postcolor'> So my question is, how do I fix these things, and perhaps also, how do I install Windows to work with Wine - and do I even really need that or not? I tried asking for help at WineHQ, but got no reply...at least not yet Thanks again
benu 1 Posted September 8, 2002 I think this is more of a wine problem than an ofp problem and the wine newsgroups would be a better place to ask for help. All i can say is that it works for me. But i do the wine configuration by hand, don't know what those tools will do... Did you create a wine windows/System dir? Did you use wineinstall from the tools dir? BTW: I'm using a CVS snapshot of winex (13082002 at the moment)...
