Weskhan1 10 Posted September 13, 2013 First off, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum to discuss this. I put it in the "Request" thread, but I feel like nobody will see it there, and I didn't see any other forums for "idea spreading", so I put it here. I've been wanting to make this map since the beginning of Arma 2, but between work, the gym, and a girlfriend, I just have never had time to learn the editor. All-in-all, the whole point of this mission would be to provide players with a very streamlined, fast, easy-to-get-into, competitive PvP mission. The ARMA community NEEDS this. My idea focuses around Competitive MP. Arma has really never had a competitive MP mission that became popular with the generic crowd, and I think this is an important key to drawing more people into Arma. Today, we have the choice between Wasteland or Life if we want to engage in any kind of PvP. If somebody could create a COMPETITIVE MP map that is fun, fast, and easy to get into, I feel like it could blow up. So here's my idea. An arena / ladder PvP mission. Essentially, this is a "knock-out ladder" tournament. Small teams (3v3, 5v5) or single players (duels 1v1) would battle against each other in different "arenas" around the island at the same time. Players cannot leave the vicinity of these arenas. The arenas would differ in size, terrain, and weapon load-out. For example, one arena might give 2 players sniper rifles in a very large arena in the hills, where another might a close quarters arena with assault rifles. Or maybe the first arena will be a 3v3, and the winners move forward to 1v1 arenas. The arena mix-ups would be what makes this mission exciting. All players must wait until the other arena battles have completed (one team/person has one in all the arenas) before the map progresses and matches up the winners of THOSE matches into new arenas. A loser bracket MIGHT be an option so the players have a chance to earn more points and continue to play even if they lose. However, if there are no open matches for the loser bracket, the players enter a spectate mode until the tourney is over. This continues until there is a final match between the top team/players who have not lost. The players are then distributed points depending on how far they made it, which will add to their server ranking. So that's it essentially. If any of you have played the original Guild Wars 1 Tombs ladder system, it is essentially that in Arma 3. I really hope somebody on here sees this as an amazing idea, because I do. I feel like it's a big part of what Arma MP is missing. Please PM me if you have any questions about my idea or if you play to create it. I would really like to be a part of the creation, and maybe if somebody else started on it I could get motivated and cut time out of my days to work on it with you. MANTIA 55 Posted September 14, 2013 Haha I swear I had this EXACT idea in my head the other night. Like exactly the same but a little higher teams like 6v6 or 12v12. I really have very basic missions/mod making experience. Would this even be possible?
Weskhan1 10 Posted September 18, 2013 I'm not really sure. Like I said, I have 0 experience with the mission / mod, but would really like to try and create it if someone with more experience is willing to try. By the way, scripts shouldn't be confusing for me as I'm a Software Developer. The smaller teams would be better I think. It's easier to form clans or teams of players with less players on a team. It's hard to find 6 - 12 friends for a scrimmage. So I think 3v3's, 2v2's, and 1v1's would be sufficient.
Langkamp 10 Posted September 18, 2013 The only problem I'm seeing with this is that one of the main draws to arma is that fact that there are no boundaries. I see how it would be easier to wrangle the teams if they had some sort of out of bounds area but there should be some way to fight PvP with teams up to 12 without limiting the area in which they can fight. Also, were you guys thinking only infantry or something more?
celery 8 Posted September 18, 2013 I'm finishing up a mission called DM Vanilla that at least has the different locations part in it. Almost 90 locations in its current state.

Also, were you guys thinking only infantry or something more? I think the biggest draw of Arma is the ability to create anything out of the huge area. In the developer's eyes, there are no boundaries. While full-scale island-wide missions are cool (and are what most mission designers are doing right now), this size isn't well suited for PvP. Especially for faster-paced PvP with little waiting. Besides, some of the arenas could be very large, and some could be "paintball-style" small arenas. But still, the arenas need boundaries...which is why I'd call them arenas in the first place. It's kinda like a coliseum-type thing. Personally, I would like to start with only infantry. Maybe for 3v3 or team missions add a vehicle or two. It all would depend on the mission creator. But because the point of this would be to give the players a balanced, streamlined, fast-paced PvP mission, it would be better to start off with just infantry I think and maybe add vehicle arenas later. I'm finishing up a mission called DM Vanilla that at least has the different locations part in it. Almost 90 locations in its current state. That's great! Are the locations kind of like "maps" or arenas that the player can choose?
celery 8 Posted September 19, 2013 That's great! Are the locations kind of like "maps" or arenas that the player can choose? The admin chooses a specific location for the game, or lets the location be random or a series of random locations. All locations are hand-picked and have a recommended weapon pool and minimum and maximum player capacity.
Langkamp 10 Posted September 20, 2013 I see what you're getting at, I'm just worried it will become battlefield if it's too small of a map. The only way to know is to try I suppose and just see how it turns out.

This idea isn't comparable to BF at all :/ It's just a way to speed up getting into combat while keeping the slow and realistic nature of ARMA.
