MarkShot 0 Posted August 16, 2002 Are there any good Web based guides to OFP out there? I am not looking for missions spoilers just general tips and tactics to help extend my virtual life span. Thanks! PS: I did search for Strategy Guides and check Avon FAQ too already.
Bosun 0 Posted August 17, 2002 This is for ColdWar  and not redhammer or res. I'm sure you could find more on goggle or if you get stuck on a particular mission ask on this forum. (check under "ofp mission" threads).
walker 0 Posted August 17, 2002 Strategy, stategy what is strategy? So many things to so many people. If your talking about what to do on an individual basis crawl everywhere. Shoot from far away 200m or greater If your under a hundred and fifty metres with an enemy section dont attract attention; Use indirect fire weapons over ridges grenade launchers and hand grenades Take out Officers, Special forces, Snipers, MGs, Grenadiers, Laws and RPGs then straight soldiers in that order. If as infantry you want to take on tanks use satchel charges and mines in preference to rockets. For tank Tactics do a search it works now Attack Choose a point to attack from where you have easy egress plan several firing positions take a single shot then move position. Defence Hide or runaway or if you have to go into attack mode If you want to know how to play as a team commander this thread has a bit. Team Tactics thread If you realy mean strategy with platoons and companies we will have something special for you this month Regards walker
EBass 0 Posted August 17, 2002 The most useful thing is choose the terrain for engageing beforehand. Dont just run in and flop down in the one piece of cover you see. When you are forced to displace ur terribly open. Run to cover which has other piece of dence cover near it. Fire about 20 rounds and move and they'll have trouble locating you, just watch for snipers
ralphwiggum 6 Posted August 17, 2002 don't be a Rambo. stay behind others unless you are sure they see you, don't bother with shooting many rounds. you'll only give your position out. just follow basic rules like: use cover, not concealment. grenades are great way to clear around the corner if used properly. never run striaght. MarkShot 0 Posted August 20, 2002 Ralph, Excuse me, but how can I throw a grenade around a corner without actually exposing myself to enemy fire from around the corner? It seems that grenade throwing is kind of linear/LOS. Thanks.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted August 20, 2002 it's a skill...easy... here's the idea Y | | | X | | assume that you are 'Y'. you are not sure if there's an enemy around the corner. let's say that there is an enemy around the corner, and he is denoted as 'X'. if the house that stands between you and enemy is like 2 or 3 stories high, then you can throw hand grenades over it. it takes practice though. aim high, and make enough distance from suspected enemy position and toss it. hand grenade will fly and land close. it's that simple, but requires practice. if you have M16+M203 or Ak74+Grenade Launcher, you can move slightly to the rear, and then fire as close as you can, near the corner. no guarantee, but it will make them less happy. Aculaud 0 Posted August 20, 2002 Oops, just read the first post all the way through Walker has a pretty good idea on it, but i disagree on some things. I aim for officers, then medics, then machine gunners. The idea being to eliminate the chain of command, and all their squad support in rapid succession. You dont need to worry about any anti-tank soldiers unless theres armor on your side. And of course, any special forces including snipers take priority to be eliminated as quickly as possible, or else they'll waste you. For tanks, use whatever you want, but hiding and making your way around them sometimes works just as good as taking them out. One rule that seems to save lives time after time for me is this: If you're equipped with a rocket launcher, you may not be able to kill the tank, but you can still disable it and make it so it at least can't kill you. Heres how: One light AT rocket will take out any APC in one shot. You dont need to worry about these that much. So, if you only have one rocket left and come up against a light tank, you can hit it directly in the turret and it will not be able to aim up, making it inable to target you. If you only have two rockets left, or one heavy AT rocket and you come up against a heavy tank, do the same thing. Hit it right in the turret as many times as possible, or with as much firepower as possible and you can disable it so it wont be able to target you. It can still move, but without being able to shoot, its as good as a moving target. So, heres what i just said in a nutshell BMP/BMP2/M113/M2A2 Â - Â One rocket to destroy T55/T72/M60 Â - Â one light rocket in the turret to disable T80/M1A1 Â - Â Two light rockets or one heavy rocket in the turret to disable. So basically, just aim for the tanks turret before anything else. Good hunting!
EBass 0 Posted August 21, 2002 Officers, SNipers, Spetz Natz, Grenadiers (the AIs can kick ass with em, quite hard to see at range though), Machine Gunners, Medics, AT soldiers, Soldiers
whisperFFW06 0 Posted August 22, 2002 Strange how different nightmares we can have For me, the main dangers are snipers and MG. MG are deadly, with and without commander. I am usually killed by an unsuspected MGer returning a storm of bullets me.
theavonlady 2 Posted August 22, 2002 You could always search The FAQ for "strategy guide".
