Feds thinking of cracking down on p2p

Read for yourself. I will fucking leave the country if they try to charge me for downloading songs that were never stated as illegal before its always been half of the people saying this is stealing and the other half saying it isn't. Start sellings cd's that actually have quality songs on each track for 5 dollars and I'll buy it. Greedy bastards but I have a feeling that most of the people on here think this is a good thing.

I've never used morpheus or any of those programs. How do they work?

or better yet instead of charging you $15.00 for a CD that has 12 songs, why not just fill the capacity of the CD space so that instead of 12 songs on a CD for 15 bucks, make it 45 songs for 15 bucks. besides if the feds try to crack down on it, it will probaly be a loosing battle for the feds.

you first d/l the programs, i for instince use WinMX. than you once you have the program, you log on the net, open the program and type the name of the song/artist you want and it will find a list of the song that you want or a list of songs by one artist, how it works is that the program does a search on the net and sorta looks into other users who have a song that your looking for and than make a connection to that PC, thereby d/ling it onto your PC for you to listen to on a media player, also its not just songs, you can find videos, program files, pics, ect... hopes that fills ya in.

I think this is BS, if I ever heard of the feds starting to arrest or charge people for this then look out canada here I come. I dont see how they could possibly charge so many people other than with money.

This IS indeed bullshit. How long have they been talking about shutting napster down? Forever, and still haven't. It would be way too much trouble for them to crack down on each indevidual customer. Even if they stop the supplier, the network still exists because of all the people who are still signed up. Or so it would seem confused.gif

This somehow just reminds me of how Sept 11 crap is getting out of hand even though I dont think this is directly related. The US goverment is very screwed up right now and I wouldnt be surpised if we see some 60's and 70's like turmoil. It might all be going to the same thing, we might end up fighting a war that the citizens dont want because it could get out of hand or maybe it already is.

This is shit IMO. If artists put more than 1 or 2 decent songs on their CD's then more people would buy them I think. Who wants to pay $15+ for one or two songs? I don't think it would be too hard to scare off people from downloading songs. If they just randomly select users, then eventually you'll be worried that your next and quit downloading.

Welcome to the CSA. No, not Confederate States of America... The Corporate States of America!

Your government is so beholden to the AA's (MPAA, RIAA) and other corporations (Shouldnt the change that to Sen. Hollings-D, not for Democrat, but for Disney?) that it is the fair use rights of the common man that gets crapped on. Canada made a really smart decision. We dont have inane laws about file sharing (yet), instead there is a levy on all recordable media. That way, there is a tax collected on blank CD's and Cassettes that is paid right to artists groups. It means paying a little more for your blanks, but at least this way the artists (in theory, I am not sure how it's awarded) is given compensation for possible piracy.

All I know is that it's amazing that a nation who rants so much about freedom allows big corporations do do Evil things.

Exactly and that's why they'll never arrest everyone for it.

Perhaps some ppl will get arrested but they'll never arrest everyone....

I use Grokster and i download all sorts off it, however i think in Groksters case there should be some government imposed bans on it. The system is knackered, for example i wanted to download that Russian tank movie ''The Beast'', and what came up? Lots and lots of beastiality movies. There have also been instances where my searches have brought up kiddie porn and rape video's (alledged anyway). I searched for Band of Brothers and got files with descriptions like ''8 year old girl gets raped by 10 guys while crying for mom''. It's like even if you search for teletubbies and put all the filters on the stuff still shows up. I think its this, not the music, that'll shut these sites down. I don't use Morpheous or Kazaa but i know Grokster is severly in danger of getting shut down because theres so much illegal stuff on it.

The whole downloading music and games shouldn't be touched though, the music industry is extorting the fuck out of us. And if people are like me, they'll download the music, like it, and then maybe buy the cd later when it gets a bit cheaper knowing it kicks ass. But like i said theres probably a lot of other things the government can use to justify shutting them down

So basically here's what we gotta do: Everybody download as much as possible now that it's still allowed!!!!

I head of one anti-piracy law proposed and all the fines that go along with it. I calculated my fine to be about $600,000(canadian) under this system.

I could probably be fined about $6,000 but they only way they could get that from me is if I were the first person fined and I was unaware they were doing it. If they shutdown the p2p things I think it would be cool to see a boycott of albums.
