b737lvr 10 Posted August 11, 2013 I noticed several times that while using Arma 3 my dedicated memory use has gone OVER 2gb (I run maxed out). Keep in mind I am using an HD7970 GHz so I am in no way affected by this but how could this affect someone using a 2GB 770? Food for thought :P

b737lvr 10 Posted August 11, 2013 buyers remorse what? You make no sense with that statement
clydefrog 3 Posted August 11, 2013 The effect it will have on people who have the 2GB GTX770 will be buyers remorse as they spent loads on a new graphics card that has only 2GB VRAM. And it seems going by what you said if they max the game it will exceed 2GB and choke. I don't know if this is the case, I have 1.3GB on my GTX570 and on high/ultra settings but with only about 2000 view distance it doesn't max the vram. I was going to get the GTX 770 "Super Clocked" but the 2gb is what kept me from doing so. That extra gig of VRAM saves you sometimes!
clydefrog 3 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) I think that's what would make me opt for the 7970 over a 770 too. I'd rather have Nvidia, but more importantly I think I'd rather have the extra memory, but only if I knew that 2GB wouldn't suffice. Generally video cards have enough VRAM with them to deal with what their GPU is capable of, i.e. they would run out of GPU power before the amount of memory would start to cause performance issues so it wouldn't matter. For example, say I was worried about a game needing more than 1.3GB VRAM, if I had my settings high enough that the VRAM was an issue, it would probably already be an issue for the GPU anyways so having more VRAM would make no difference. So then I would have to turn the settings down and then it would use less VRAM as a result. Edited August 11, 2013 by clydefrog
b737lvr 10 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) I spent $50 less, I got 4 free games, and I get the same performance. I think I chose wisely xD. That $50 less is why I got Rome 2! If I had gotten the Nvidia I wouldn't be running Arma 3 the way I am, I wouldn't have any of the new titles like Bioshock Infinite or Tomb Raider, plus I wouldn't be freaking out over excitement for Rome 2!! Edit: Sorry I don't mean to sound like a Fanboy with that statement. I just feel good about the deal I got xD Edited August 11, 2013 by b737lvr
Sneakson 1 Posted August 11, 2013 What resolution? 2GB should be enough for Full HD but obviously not 4K.
